The No. 9 Dilemma: It’s no secret that since Alexander Isak’s record-breaking £125m move to Liverpool last summer, Newcastle United have been toothless up top. We’ve missed that clinical edge, that X-factor. While Anthony Gordon has worked hard leading the line, we’re essentially robbing Peter to pay Paul—losing his creative spark on the wing just to have a body in the box. The experiments with Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa haven't caught fire yet, and with a massive summer window looming, Sporting Director Ross Wilson knows we can’t afford another expensive gamble. If United want a proven commodity who won't need a map to find the back of the net in the Prem, here are five names currently on the radar. 🇧🇷 1. Igor Thiago (Brentford) 🐝 The Brazilian has been a revelation in London. At 24, he’s hitting his absolute prime and is a shoo-in for the Brazil World Cup squad this summer. With 19 goals already this term, he’s proven the "Brentford model" works. 🆙 The Upside: He’s a physical powerhouse who knows exactly where the goal is. 🤬 The Catch: Brentford are notoriously tough negotiators. After the Wissa deal, they won’t let their star man go for anything less than a king’s ransom. 🤔 Verdict: He’s the "dream" signing. If the budget allows, he's the one. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 2. Liam Delap (Chelsea) 🔵 A year ago, we were desperate for Delap, only for Chelsea to swoop in. Since then, it’s been a nightmare for the 23-year-old at Stamford Bridge. Limited starts and a disappointing goal return have left him on the fringes of Liam Rosenior’s plans. 🆙 The Upside: The talent is clearly there, and a fresh start under Eddie Howe could be the reboot his career needs. 🤬 The Catch: Injuries have plagued him. Can Newcastle rely on a striker who’s struggled to stay on the pitch? 🤔 Verdict: A gamble, but likely the most affordable option on this list. 🇺🇾 3. Darwin Núñez (Al-Hilal) 🇸🇦 The wildcard. Currently frozen out in the Saudi Pro League, Darwin is desperate for a return to Europe. We all remember his clinical double against us at SJP in 2023—when he’s on it, he’s unplayable. 🆙 The Upside: Versatility. He can lead the line or drift out left, potentially alternating with Gordon. 🤬 The Catch: His wages in Saudi are astronomical. He’d need to take a massive pay cut to fit into United’s wage structure. 🤔 Verdict: High risk, high reward? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 4. Dominic Solanke (Tottenham) ⚪ With Spurs flirting with the drop and Roberto De Zerbi facing a potential firesale,.Solanke’s name is back in the mix. Howe knows him intimately from their Bournemouth days, and that trust goes a long way. 🆙 The Upside: A reliable workhorse who fits the high-press system perfectly. 🤬 The Catch: He turns 29 in September and hasn't set the world on fire at Spurs (only 3 goals this season). 🤔 Verdict: A safe stop-gap option, but maybe not the statement signing the fans are craving. 🇸🇳 5. Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea/Bayern Munich) 🔵 Jackson is currently on loan at Bayern, and while his goal tally is decent (7 goals in 26 games), he’s playing second fiddle to Harry Kane. Bayern have a £70m obligation to buy, but there are whispers they might look to flip him immediately. 🆙 The Upside: He’s young (24) and has a high ceiling. 30 goals in his Chelsea career proves he can score in England. 🤬 The Catch: Discipline. Five red cards in his career is a massive red flag for a team that needs stability. 🤔 Verdict: Expensive and temperamental. Probably the least likely, but one to watch if the price drops. What do you think? Who should be our priority to lead the line next season? Let us know in the comments! 👇 #NUFC #NUFCNews #Newcastle #EPL

We really should go back for Trafford, don't overthink it - he's a top young GK and he was set on coming here. There is surely some intelligent deal we could do involving Tino (or Tonali sadly) to make it work quickly.

🇨🇩 Wissa, our #9 – the one who was supposed to help us regain our footing after the whole Isak debacle – the one who cost Newcastle United £55 million this past summer – the one who went on strike at Brentford because he wanted to come to Newcastle so badly – the one who has only scored one goal for us so far in the Premier League… 🐝 I used to admire Wissa at Brentford and always felt like he would score whenever he got the ball. When he officially signed for Newcastle, I was excited to see what he could do for us. As a surprise to us all, since his arrival, he has been nothing more than a plant pot on the bench. I get that it takes time for a new player to jive with a new team, and I understand that he’s been injured, but it’s been seven months. It’s time to see the Wissa we all used to know from Brentford. To make matters worse, he only seems to score and put in the effort for his country during the international games. If he can put in that kind of effort there, why can’t he for us? We paid a big fee – one that we easily could have put toward someone else – only to have him fail to live up to his name. Yes, he has only made 13 appearances for us in the league, mostly as a sub from the bench, but he seems to be a shadow of his former self. Not only that, but he seems to be clueless and oblivious about the impact of his disrespectful social media support of Brobbey’s Instagram post of Sunderland’s win over us in the derby, let's hope it's fake. What kind of player, wearing the cherished #9 shirt, previously worn by a legend, would do something like that without thinking about how it would be viewed by his fans and supporters? If he wants to win over the NUFC fans, Wissa needs to reassess his priorities; show that his club means as much to him as his country; and prove that we made a good decision in putting our faith in him. What do you think about Wissa as a NUFC player? Would you like to see him go in the next transfer window or do you think he will come good for us? 🤔 #NUFC #NUFCNews #Newcastle

@NE5westend Played in some shite teams as well and still scored so many goals. His chances to goal ratio was insane. He also had two really bad injuries keeping him out for nearly two seasons.

Fancy a laugh!? 🤔 Robbie Fowler reckons that he was a better goalscorer than both Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham and wasn't given a chance at international level!!!! 😱 "I’d scored nearly 100 goals before I was called up to England. To me it's extraordinary. England had Alan Shearer, Teddy Sheringham, Ian Wright, Les Ferdinand and Andy Cole, but I genuinely would back myself to be better than all of them. In terms of goalscoring, I was probably the best at that time. I’m not having a go at them, what did concern me was the fact that I couldn’t even get a look in despite the amount of goals I had scored. At the time it was hard to take." That's his line and he is sticking to it huh!! 😉 A great goal scorer no doubt but don't blow your own trumpet! Robbie Fowler earned 26 caps for the England national team, scoring just 7 goals during his career. Even Scousers, surely, can't agree with him! #NUFC #NUFCFans #Newcastle #Liverpool

@Magpie24_7 Not clinical and not a par on shearer. Analysis his time at United in what were great teams and still need 4 chances or so to covert 1. Shearer played in some pants teams yet smashed them in still.

If THIS Andy Cole was playing in the Premier League today, how much do you think he would go for? We could do with a clinical finisher like him in our current squad! #NUFC

Last summer's failed window has put us back years. Missed targets, alternatives flopped/miss-used, players wanting out. Howe is far from off the hook this season but I feel if we can cling onto stability and deliver in the window we can build again next season. Deep breaths #NUFC

@Joe__McL Sorry, EH has to go. We're kidding ourselves if we think he'll ever move away from being a PE teacher wanting bigger, stronger, faster athletes over creative technicians. More than 1 game a season + we're knackered as it's unsustainable. Teams like AV cope, EH can't, simple as.
