@viennateng Reading my comment I realize it may sound like I’ve moved on from prevention to climate resilience. Sadly, I think we do have to think about resilience but it’s not either/or.

Wondering how we get out of our eroded trust in gov't -> disinvestment -> underprepared -> calamity hits -> outrage at response -> misinformation compounds outrage -> trust erodes further cycle.
Living in the climate era means disasters are going to keep coming harder & faster.

@RadioFreeTom @SophieZnS Fair enough, a gamble with existence vs. certain death or permanent disability for thousands to tens of thousands, mostly children, if RFK Jr gets his policies implemented. I don’t like either.

@FredLI @RadioFreeTom I have trouble followimg comment threads, they sort of nest like Gmail, which i just don't like.
The information organization just doesn't jive with my brain. It's IG but for words and opinions. Thats fine for pics, vids, recipes, et al but not for dialogue.

A firm break with neoliberalism.
Listen to poor and rural people, men in crisis. Don't decide for them.
Pick fights. Embrace populism.
Build a big tent. Be less judgmental.
But we are beyond small fixes.

That was a cataclysm. Electoral map wipeout. Senate D practical ceiling is now 52 seats. R's is 62.
Time to rebuild the left.
We are out of touch with the crisis of meaning/purpose fueling MAGA. We refuse to pick big fights. Our tent is too small.

@ElectProject Overall, this was a very, very high-turnout election.
62.3% of eligible voters turning out means higher turnout than any election in the last half century—other than 2020, the record holder.

I made an update pass through the states for the 2024 turnout rate. The initial estimate was based on incomplete information on projected turnout. This is based on actual turnout and outstanding ballot reports. The turnout rate is now estimated at 62.3% election.lab.ufl.edu/2024-general-e…

Just crunched some numbers.
Turnout generally dropped nationwide. But battleground states had slightly *higher* turnout among eligible voters than 2020—and a smaller-than-avg swing towards Trump.
Wisconsin had the highest turnout rise in the nation: +1.3% of eligible voters.🧵

Elite journalists complained about Harris's lack of policy specifics. Then she rolled out two of the most exciting, novel policy ideas in ages -- her YIMBY housing-supply stuff & extending Medicare to cover in-home care -- & they didn't give a shit.

Tucker Carlson says "human forces" did not create nuclear technology. Instead, it was demons. "I have never met a person who can isolate the moment when nuclear technology became known to man. So, where did it come from exactly? ... it's very clear to me these are demonic."

@GenTXer2 Best: Shark Rocket stick vac. Small, light, cheap, capable enough to do the whole house. Runner up: Breville toaster oven. Actually does what it claims to do, and well. Worst: GE over-range microwave. Have to completely de-install it to replace sensor.

@drvolts No, no. Tomorrow is the day we go back to real time and the only problem is that we suddenly jump to early dark evenings instead of having got there gradually. It's the going on DST in the spring that's the problem, when we have to go back to getting up in the dark.
