JUST ANNOUNCED: @carriemusictx is gearing up for a special, supersized Laboratorio show at the Paramount on May 17 for a genre-bending Southwest collab with the iconic @casadecalexico, praised by NPR for their “sprawling, cross-cultural indie rock.”

@viennateng Reading my comment I realize it may sound like I’ve moved on from prevention to climate resilience. Sadly, I think we do have to think about resilience but it’s not either/or.
English

@viennateng Instead, they expect vast reserves of firefighting resources to be sitting around waiting for the next inevitable disaster in their badly sited, flimsily constructed communities.

@RadioFreeTom @SophieZnS Fair enough, a gamble with existence vs. certain death or permanent disability for thousands to tens of thousands, mostly children, if RFK Jr gets his policies implemented. I don’t like either.
English

@KeithKopinski @RadioFreeTom I can’t follow nested conversations either.
English

@FredLI @RadioFreeTom I have trouble followimg comment threads, they sort of nest like Gmail, which i just don't like.
The information organization just doesn't jive with my brain. It's IG but for words and opinions. Thats fine for pics, vids, recipes, et al but not for dialogue.

@RadioFreeTom Following! You were one of the people I was waiting for, before leaving Twitter. Not many left now. Thanks!
English

@RadioFreeTom People were leaving X long before the election, for good reason. Robust friend and hobby communities exist elsewhere, and the number of must-follow accounts like yours is dwindling. The move is inevitable.

@benwikler @ElectProject You said in the original post that turnout dropped, and here you seem to say that it was record high. I’m confused; what am I missing?
English

@ElectProject Overall, this was a very, very high-turnout election.
62.3% of eligible voters turning out means higher turnout than any election in the last half century—other than 2020, the record holder.

Michael McDonald@ElectProject
I made an update pass through the states for the 2024 turnout rate. The initial estimate was based on incomplete information on projected turnout. This is based on actual turnout and outstanding ballot reports. The turnout rate is now estimated at 62.3% election.lab.ufl.edu/2024-general-e…

@drvolts The media are laser focused on “the issues” as defined by Republicans. Housing and Medical Care don’t count. “Tell us about immigration, inflation, and crime.”

I have my critiques of nuclear power, but this one had not occurred to me.
Justin Baragona@justinbaragona
Tucker Carlson says "human forces" did not create nuclear technology. Instead, it was demons. "I have never met a person who can isolate the moment when nuclear technology became known to man. So, where did it come from exactly? ... it's very clear to me these are demonic."

@GenTXer2 Best: Shark Rocket stick vac. Small, light, cheap, capable enough to do the whole house. Runner up: Breville toaster oven. Actually does what it claims to do, and well. Worst: GE over-range microwave. Have to completely de-install it to replace sensor.

@RadioFreeTom When the Reagan Republicans decided they were ok with Newt Gingrich, the gates to unserious politics were opened. Somehow they are still shocked at what has become of their party. It’s willful denial.
English

@drvolts Are you seriously supporting the conspiracy theory that Standard Time literally reduces daily hours of sunlight? Because millions of people believe that and that’s what she said.
English

@RadioFreeTom In a democracy you get the government you deserve, they say.
English

@drvolts No, no. Tomorrow is the day we go back to real time and the only problem is that we suddenly jump to early dark evenings instead of having got there gradually. It's the going on DST in the spring that's the problem, when we have to go back to getting up in the dark.
