@arthistorynews It rubs it in a bit to charge "foreigners" to see all the stuff we've pinched off them.

Yes. Even if entry remains free for UK citizens, the charging infrastructure will still put people off. What retailers call 'threshold resistance'.

@arthistorynews I gained a love of art and interest in art history because museums and galleries were free and I could go there as a child with my working-class parents, who also loved art. I fear that any charges will end by restricting artistic heritage to a wealthier and posher elite.

BLINKEN: The idea that Finland and Sweden are members of NATO is extraordinary. It was never in anyone's imagination for decades. What Putin has done in Ukraine is to precipitate the very things he claimed he was trying to prevent, including a stronger NATO closer to Russia.

@hxhassan But munitions can be launched from 000's of km away. SO I'm not sure what use it is.

Well, look at that: The officials tell Axios that four options are under discussion. "A third possibility would be to invade Abu Musa Island in the eastern Persian Gulf, which gives Iran control over ships leaving the Gulf." timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry…

I drafted this 6 days ago, commenting on @MazMHussain’s tweet, but was too scared to even post it. Not yet likely, but it’s the kind of scenario that’d become plausible if both sides pressed on (much like how things played out during the Gaza war). 1/2

Jack Keane: The Iranian regime would likely stay in power, but they're surrendering everything we would take away from them using military operations. That makes me skeptical. - One, whether they will actually agree. - Two, they are pathological liars and cheaters. 1/

@HerrFizz @Mylovanov Trump’s administration really believes Russia can be an ally against China because the Russians intentionally hinted at it and also gave Trump’s administration an additional carrot: a look into a future where Trump and his buddies make profits in Russia after the war in Ukraine.

Former Secretary of State Blinken: To deal with China, the US must act from a position of strength — especially with allies. Alone, China has the advantage, but aligned with Europe, Asia, and others, that shifts from 20–25% to 50–60% of global GDP.

Ignorance must be so comforting Let me explain: Westminster Abbey is the Commonwealth Church as the King lives in the UK The flags of commonwealth countries are flown on their national days as this was US & Israel aren’t members of the Commonwealth so their flags don’t qualify

🎢 Wild ride on markets today reacting to the Trump deescalation post and then various denials and counterdenials… 1. Brent Crude oil… slumps 14% on Trump post, then rises 10% on Iranian denials then moves >5% a further four times before settling a moment ago just below $100 a barrel 2. UK natural gas prices - similar… 3. UK 10 year gilt yields had risen into worrying territory 5.12%, then fell sharply then rollercoaster … now 4.85%

For all the attention paid to how the U.S. hasn't quite thought this through, not enough attention is being paid to how Iran hasn't either. Demanding the removal of U.S. bases in the Gulf is a big red flag for the Gulf states -- not just KSA, Kuwait and the UAE, but also Qatar, which leverages quite a lot in the U.S. on the presence of Al Udeid. wsj.com/world/middle-e…

"Shows no sign of backing down"? They're being hit at will, and have been for 21 days. They're spraying fire and hoping something sticks. They have no war-fighting capacity against the U.S. or Israel. This is bananas logic.

Russia hasn’t directly attacked us and we have poured weapons into Ukraine. Iran has attacked us several times and Labour does nothing. Could we at least ask Ukraine to do something?
