@totusjustice @jonharris1989 Except that when we read what Jesus is referencing in Psalm 118 in context, that psalm is not about judgment. Jon got it right.

.@jonharris1989 kept referring to this verse highlighted in the screenshot as evidence that the Jews would finally embrace Christ in love. A couple points here: 1. Jesus never says or suggests that in the actual words. He simply says, "You won't see me till you say these words." He doesn't say they will receive him or that these are words of sincere praise toward him which they speak. I remind you that it was the Spirit of Christ in Isaiah and then later Christ himself who said, "This people draws near to me with their lips but their heart is far from me" (Isa. 29:13; Mat. 15:7-9), which, though it can be applied to all men in warning them of hypocrisy, always had specific reference to the Jews. 2. The wider context is that this is the close of Matthew 23. Anyone who knows the Bible knows two things: first, this is the chapter where Christ specially excoriates the leaders of the Jews for their evil; and second, this chapter precedes and anticipates the Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24), which is about the coming destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple. The entire context, then, is not salvation or revival, but literal woes pronounced upon the leaders (and through them, upon the people) for their cumulative, unique wickedness which culminates ultimately in Christ's judgment of them at AD 70. This means that Jon and others like him would have you believe that Jesus, in the midst of condemning the Jews and warning them of the impending judgment, leaves them with one phrase at the very end, not to speak of their salvation (that is, the audience whom he was speaking to) but of the salvation of some Jews nearly two thousand years or more later. Which means that Jesus spends 99% of this chapter on that generation and their evil, 1% on their remote future, and then in the next chapter returns again to their evil and their own generation. Of course there is another way to handle the verse so that it accords with the context and underlying themes. But that will have to wait, and this is enough for serious minds to chew on.

Julie Roys website is still on the naughty list of several DNS security systems. To a reader-supported site, this loss in traffic would be devestating. But she is funded not by readership, but by dark money donors, so a major loss in traffic is no big deal.

If you know about the long history of moral failure among SEBTS Provosts this White Smoke does not bode well. Would love to be wrong but, when it comes to the SBC's liberal wing it is hard to get it wrong.

TLDR Young men are being encouraged to pursue these young women as if their past doesn’t matter and as if redemption removes temporal consequences. It doesn’t. One of the most statistically predictive factors for divorce is when the woman has slept around and there are a thousand other factors that make it sub optimal at best. I don’t think young men should be pursuing these women and I believe it is pastorally irresponsible to be promoting it. Older men or men with a similar past? Fine. Young chaste men? Heck no.

For young men who racked up tens of thousands in debt & destroyed your body through drug use but are now a born again Christian: There are no consequences. You deserve to marry a young healthy woman with no debt. If anyone tells you different, they are denying the gospel.

"In both Genesis 12 and Numbers 24 the promise to bless and curse is applied to Abraham and then to Israel before settlement in Canaan. If this applies today, it would apply to the people of Israel broadly, most of whom are not living in the modern nation state." This nonsensical application was debunked by Paul in Galatians 3. This is textbook dispensationalism from someone who claims to be Reformed.

@jonharris1989 You quote the promises of Genesis without even mentioning Galatians 3:7. Taking your reasoning to its logical conclusion would require genetic testing for every self proclaimed Jew on the planet. There is no remaining covenant based on Genetics.

This is the fruit of a lot of contemporary biblicism. You'll have ostensibly conservative evangelical leaders affirm what the Bible explicitly says, things like virginity and chastity are commendable, or that wives should obey their husbands, but the rationale for why God would command such things is totally empty because to explicate why those things are good is totally forbidden by a godless zeitgeist most are beholden to. So you'll say "chastity is a blessing" or "wives obey your husbands" but then when pressed, they know that cannot get into why it is good, and instead will begin to say why we have to have grace for those who have been promiscuous or every way in which wives don't have to obey their husbands. It is always trying to find the absolute minimum adherence to what the Bible explicitly says while being very careful transgressing the actual mandated beliefs of our culture. Once you see this trick employed in one instance, you see it everywhere.
Paul Biegler, D.A.@FrankCapraJr

People like this don’t actually really have a frame of mind for the concept of “virginity.” They pay lip service to it as being a vague “blessing from God,” but they can’t actually articulate why it’s a blessing, or even important.

What does this mean? “hold women accountable“? We’re talking about a woman who repented of her sin and was forgiven and has shown fruit in keeping with repentance for many years since then. What “accountability” do you want this woman to face now?
John Titor@JohnTitor

@LovesSardine @megbasham You will rarely see feminist conservative women hold other women accountable.

@StrokerAce225 @megbasham Your "gotcha" question assumes that a child placed in the care of a repentant child molester is in the same danger as a grown man who marries a repentant promiscuous woman after spending time and evaluating her showing the fruit of repentance. It's really a dumb question TBH

@megbasham One question. Would you leave your child with a child molester who was ‘forgiven’? Why not!? Jesus forgave them, they are square with the house again. Now block me so I don’t make you look at your reflection.

No. You’re not required to ignore the fact that a woman had sex with 50 dudes just because she says she got saved last week. If she’s regenerate, God will forgive her, but I’m not required to marry her because she thinks salvation should mean actions don’t have consequences.
Tom Buck (Five Point Buck)@TomBuck

If someone argues that a former promiscuous woman is "damaged goods" and questions whether a Christian young man should marry her, remember Rahab. She was a Canaanite prostitute but became a mother in the lineage of Jesus. God redeemed her, cleansed her, and Salmon married her.
