Doug Wilson attempted to do some damage control regarding his position on Catholics versus Jews in his ideal Protestant Republic, two centuries into the future. In doing so, he made some interesting statements. Doug makes clear that there will be no public displays of lasciviousness (e.g., pride parades) or idolatry. All public spaces would be Christian, while private spaces would remain private and could allow for synagogues, mosques, and sand demon temples. This is where things go off the rails. First, these pagan places of worship are PUBLIC. How could they be considered otherwise? Second, Tel Aviv is the gayest city in the world. How are you going to restrict pride parades while also allowing their sponsors to operate freely. Third, Doug says there would only be a limited amount of Muslims and Hindus. In what society that allowed Muslims have they remained just a small minority?! They win the demographics game every single time. Finally, I have to point out that this is Doug Wilson’s ideal Christian Nationalist Republic. It boggles my mind that his ideal would include so much compromise right off the bat. But if you ask me, what he’s pining for is actually 1950s America, steeped in 20th century liberalism and the post-war consensus. What do you think?
