OPEN LETTER FROM ALEX WAISWA MUFUMBIRO. "To everyone listening, to my family, to my friends, It’s been a week. One week since my wife took her last breath. One week since the world went quiet. And I wasn’t there. I’m speaking to you from prison. They denied me bail. They denied me the chance to hold her hand one last time. To kiss her forehead. To throw soil on her grave. To say goodbye. Do you know what that does to a man? To know the woman who carried your name, who prayed for you, who stood by you… is gone, and you couldn’t bury her? I miss her so much it hurts to breathe. I miss her voice in the morning. I miss her texting me before a fight. I miss the way she believed in me when nobody else did. Prison walls are cold, but this emptiness inside me is colder. You all laid her to rest for me. You did what I should have done. For that, I will thank you for the rest of my life. You gave her dignity when I was in chains. I don’t know when I’ll be free. I don’t know when I’ll get to kneel at her grave. But I know this: she died loved. She died my wife. And though I’m locked up, my heart is with her every second. To my children Daddy is sorry. To my wife Edith, I hope you can hear me. I love you. I will always love you. Thank you for letting me mourn with you, even from here".

Mr. Don Bwana, protocol officer at the NRM secretariat, may have missed his chance to join the Army, but his dedication as he goes about his duties shows that he admires being a soldier. Salute to all men in uniform who inspire us daily. 🇺🇬

JUST IN: The Anti-Corruption Court has convicted former State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Agnes Nandutu, over the diversion of 2,000 iron sheets meant for vulnerable communities in the Karamoja sub-region. Court found that Nandutu knowingly received and retained government property that was not lawfully allocated to her and which she had reason to believe had been irregularly diverted from a public programme intended for vulnerable beneficiaries. Her bail has been cancelled as she's remanded to Luzira Prison until Friday this week for sentencing, Juliet Kigongo reports. #MonitorUpdates

The price of freedom is steep . Picture being wrongly accused, arrested , and then losing a partner without even getting a chance to say goodbye. May her soul rest in peace. 🙏

Fellow Ugandans, It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our dear sister and comrade, Edith Katende Mufumbiro, the wife of our Deputy Spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro. Edith passed on after 3:00am today following a hard-fought battle with cancer. At the time of her passing, her dear husband Waiswa remains detained at Luzira Upper Prison for no crime whatsoever. His only crime is speaking out against injustice and misrule. The criminal regime placed on him and others the sham charge of "Unlawful Drilling" which apparently took place on 12th February 2025 at our Party Headquarters. In fact, on that day, Waiswa never stepped there as he was at Mulago Cancer Institute with the wife! The judiciary, fully aware of these facts, has chosen to conspire in this persecution. Waiswa, alongside other comrades, has applied for bail severally. He has variously made an impassioned plea to the Court to be released on bail so that he takes care of his sick wife, but it has been denied. The injustice! As difficult as it is, we remain hopeful that we shall overcome some day. May God grant the family, especially our brother Waiswa, the strength he needs at this time.
