The Artemis II crew captured this image showing the rings of the Orientale basin during their lunar flyby on April 6. At the 10 o’clock position of the Orientale basin, the two smaller craters – which the Artemis II crew has suggested be named Integrity & Carroll – are visible.

@SirDavidChase @NASAArtemis They use a laser to send data back. whenever they take a photo, either by DSLR or phone, they can send it to the onboard computer which sends it back to each by laser.

The photos are being taken by the crew’s cell phones looking out that little window, then sent back to earth. What cell phone tower are they hitting to allow that to happen? One of my hobbies is radios, transmissions, receiving, frequencies, ect. Which is why it’s puzzling to me how photos are sent without repeaters and towers. Earth’s satellites would be too far to connect with.

@dan_cameron99 @xXaia @NASAArtemis NASA’s Deep Space Network bandwidth is about 99% dedicated to telemetry and engineering data, sending back hi-res photos isn’t their top priority right now. The cameras are saving higher resolution photos to the on-board storage which can get offloaded when they return home.

Approaching the near side of the Moon. The Artemis II astronauts have surpassed the record for the distance from Earth at 1:56 ET (1756 UTC). This record was previously set during the Apollo 13 mission when the astronauts traveled 248,655 miles from Earth. The Moon continues to grow larger and larger in the windows of the Orion spacecraft as the Artemis II mission gears up to observe the far side. The astronauts are predicted to make their closest approach of the Moon around 7:02pm ET (2302 UTC).

We were able to track it for a while, into the upper atmosphere, but it’s moving fast and we have start looking farther up instead of to the side, it gets hard to track with most cameras. Then you start needing slow telescopes

It was inspiring to watch the Artemis II launch yesterday — @NASA’s first crewed mission around the moon since 1972. Most of Tenna's "funny text" is stylistically similar between both English and Japanese versions of the game, however the "Susiezilla" text is styled entirely differently in Japanese. With the Japanese version closely resembling the Japanese logo of the original 1954 Godzilla.
