#LeeJooYoung, a fourth-generation chaebol heir (of Daelim Group family) and influencer, showed support by liking #ChaEunWoo’s apology post on social media. She was reportedly the only celebrity to do so at that time.

In the 2000s when I was in high school and college, I used to operate an initiative teaching Chinese culture to adopted Chinese children in New England. One thing that struck me was the demographics. Nearly 50% of the families were Jewish, a third of whom were Annie Leibowitz style lesbians. Education and achievement were huge focuses. You also had to be pretty wealthy to afford the adoption agency fees. The type of American parents who wanted to adopt Chinese at that time wanted to give them every opportunity and had huge confidence in their abilities. I think these parents could’ve adopted almost any kid and they would have become successful.

The Rise of Chinese girls in America. In 2018, Charlie Munger explained why Americans have so many adopted Chinese Girls. “Every American private school is full of the discarded Chinese girls and they're getting all A's and winning prizes” Charlie explains why this happened: “Because there was so much poverty in China and it was so overpopulated, if an American couple who had no child of their own, they could go to China and adopt a poor Chinese girl.” He makes a very important point: “So in every important city of America, people soon learned that they got better babies by taking the unwanted Chinese girls from the Chinese farms. Those babies on average worked out better than if they had their own children. So everyone wanted a Chinese girl." Charlie explained how they are winning in America: "Every American private school is full of the discarded Chinese girls and they're getting all A's and winning prizes. They're spectacularly successful. You go to Minnesota and see these Chinese girls, they're playing the difficult instruments in the orchestra."

Some tells of low intelligence I've noticed over the years: 1. Bad at dealing with ambiguity 2. Thinks with too little or much nuance 3. Bad at distinguishing what is from what ought 4. How poorly they speak relative to how difficult it is to say what they are saying.

Having watched many former colleagues stay back in investment banking to climb the promotion ladder, the reasons are usually one of the three > they realize that they are not passionate about finance but enjoy the money in banking. Going into private equity or hedge fund means you will be competing with people who are genuinely in love with their job. Going into corp dev means taking a massive pay cut. You can usually hang around the hoop in banking without building any real expertise and become pretty senior before being pushed out > they genuinely end up liking banking. The idea that multi billion dollar company CEOs and CFOs come to them for advice. They are in the business of getting deals done and providing solutions to clients. They prefer that aspect of the job vs taking directional views on a company and then waiting years to see if their thesis is working out. Client service and salesmanship comes to them more naturally. These are the people who end up staying back and actually trying to make MD in banking > they enjoy the continuity of the job. Banking hours suck but they like the culture / people at their firm. They weren’t sure what to do with their life so they continued on with it. Ironically, these people are the best to work with. They care enough to be a good teammate, but not too much to become a hardo VP who blows up your midnight.

vanderbilt is now more selective than yale my theory of the increasing popularity of this institution is that it combines elements of ivy plus prestige with the increasing trend toward students opting for southern football schools. also a lot of people love nashville these days
