@WxFront Very cool! And I see using SHARPpy so shout out to Greg Blumberg 😃 @em_wx_research

@JASanta It’s the initialization hour of the most recent HRRR run. So the idea is that the first hour would assimilate all the latest observational data (including soundings if available) and give a semi-accurate snapshot of the current atmospheric conditions at each hour.

🎈 Sample the Atmosphere Anytime, Anywhere ⛈️
The Mesoanalysis Sounding Tool lets you:
🔍 Sample near-storm environments alongside radar, satellite, observations, and outlooks
⏱️ Look back in time to track how the atmosphere has evolved through the day
🎬 Export sounding loops to watch the cap break or the low-level jet ramp up
Activate it from the Tools Menu in the top right corner of the screen!

@capitalweather Can you interpret the new Intensity hatching that the western half of the DC area is in today (Cat 1)?
English

⚠️ Slight risk of severe storms late today — but coverage uncertain
The D.C. region is under a Level 2 of 5 severe storm risk today as a powerful system moves east after producing tornadoes and large hail in the Midwest. If storms form, damaging winds, hail and perhaps a tornado would be possible due to strong wind shear.
That said, storm chances are iffy Morning clouds and showers may limit instability, and the main front may still be west of the area during peak afternoon heating. Many short-term models show spotty, if any, development near the Beltway.
⏰ Time to watch: roughly 3–8 p.m.
📍 Storms may be more likely north and west of D.C.
Rain chances increase late tonight into Thursday morning, but severe weather is unlikely then.
We’ll update if storms begin to develop.

DMV gang — anyone else noticing all the “stuff” on radar? It’s clear outside, but the radar is detecting small objects in the atmosphere.
Radar suggests insects (not quite spikey enough to be birds; plus the birds migrate at night). The most likely culprit? The spotted lantern fly!
They are probably being caught up in air currents and thermals now that it’s especially warm today, AND the “clutter” on radar is most prevalent below 3,000 feet — which is mostly where the spotted lantern flies fly.
Yucky.

@LauraMiers @iseeuliars And when Rochelle said put masks in your drawer on May 12 2021 we already had data from Europe that delta was evading the vax. They knew, yet proceeded w the great unmasking in order to say ‘we beat covid’.
English

@iseeuliars This is the PRECISE MOMENT the U.S. kicked off the Great Unmasking.

@JacsonBevens 🫡 “The lows define the highs and I’m grateful that the latter has outweighed the former”. As usual you have five quotes that perfectly sum up our experience and journey over these years. Thank you for making both the highs and lows even higher and lower.

“Y’all not only appreciated the madness, you embraced it. You made me feel seen, and feeling seen is maybe the most underrated joy in all of human nature. I wouldn’t have that if it wasn’t for you.”
