@SymphonicUSA Well I actually do care abt the process, and frankly I don't agree that his argument is cohesive or logical. That's the issue here. That he's not explaining why he views it as wrong, but why the show actually agrees with him when it just doesn't. It's a fundamental diff. of views

@JacobTelltale Yeah, but I don't really care about the "process". I care more about whether someone can make a cohesive, logical argument. It's different because Sam x Frodo people are literally making stuff up that doesn't align with reality.

@JacobTelltale Quite literally everyone "filters things through their own biases." That is how anyone forms an opinion on anything. People hold opinions that inform statements. Sometimes they're right and sometimes they are wrong. It requires discretion.

@SymphonicUSA They are HIS. No different when people point to the affection of Sam for Frodo, and when they are told "Well they are meant to be friends" they go "No cause gay men act this way towards eachother". It's the same phenomenon.

@SymphonicUSA Yes but then the Thesis of Isaac is "Therefore it confirms my views, rather than "I believe the show is wrong on this." It's taking a thing happening in the show, filtering it through his biases, then slapping his conclusions on the show as it's themes, when that's not the case.

@SymphonicUSA I feel I was clear, not sure how I can elaborate, unless there's something in particular? Cause people wrote essays on "Sam & Frodo are gay" too, but those were also wrong, & were putting the author's views incorrectly into the framework of a story that was saying the opposite.

@SymphonicUSA This is entirely projection of his own worldview into the show that is just wrong on a base level of what the show is trying to say. You don't even have to agree with it. I certainly don't agree w/everything, and probably don't w/Goose, but I don't need to make stuff up.

@SymphonicUSA Here's an example. The show does not at all portray the scenes of "therapy speak" as "hollow" or "cope". It fully believes it's own thesis, & shows it through character behavior that opening up & being honest is the right way to go for both the characters & audience.

@SymphonicUSA Right Wing takes =/= twisting the source material into being Right Wing by hyper focusing on certain elements & entirely ignoring others. He takes the same leaps as those who try to say LOTR is "AcUaLlY a piece of Leftist art because environmentalism" or whatever. Same here.

@ReactionaryPhil Eh, maybe, but this also is down to how you consume art. When I watched Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, I already had extensive knowledge of the memes surrounding them. But when watching, while yes my brain clocked that this was a "meme scene", I did not consume it ironically.
