@robertoblake @itssunpi This setup has been inspiring me for years. It first got me looking at ultrawide displays and dedicated camera setup for livestreams.
English

@robertoblake Worth every penny it seems. I’m working to get to this point. Having my own house is the first real step for me. The idea of having to break everything down to move it when necessary keeps me on the leaner side of a library and setup.

@robertoblake Doing so would also reduce decision friction: fewer options, less decisions to have to make in some situations.

Strongly considering selling my Sony a9 II and 2x A74 cameras…
They aren’t going to go up in value and I can go into the new a7R6…
With that and my 2x A7s3 and FX3 that should be enough full frame cameras for a 2-3 camera setup for interviews and a photography dedicated camera until I want an a9III

@DiscussingFilm To an extent the driver isn’t wrong. Half the development was done by the time Jackson signed on so he didn’t get to call the shots from the beginning like with LotR. He was what third director or something too?
English

Peter Jackson says a delivery driver once told him his ‘HOBBIT’ trilogy was crap.
“He just looks at me [at the door ] and says, ‘Hey there, you’re that fella that made Lord of the Rings aren’t you? Lord of the Rings that was great man, that was a fantastic film’. I said ‘Yeah, oh thanks.’
He turns back to the van and says: ‘Oh they should have got you to make those Hobbit movies, because they were crap…’ I just wait, and I just roll my eyes and say ‘Yeah, tell me about it, mate.’”

@mobfighter63 @SWForce4EU I think that’s a good distinction. Most of Star Wars is space fantasy like lightsabers and the Force. Andor is actual sci fi by comparison.
English

@JediPeter @SWForce4EU I genuinely believe it’s a gritty Sci-Fi show (as of Episode 3) focused on revolution under the Star Wars brand that wouldn’t have been made otherwise. Corporations serving as an arm and the eyes and ears of the Empire on Earth environments would be controversial certainly.
English

@AuthorGFAllen Lois Lowry. Read The Giver because it had an award. Far more depressing than I needed as a child. Decided I'd just never read anything she ever wrote again.
English

@mobfighter63 @SWForce4EU Andor seems more like a show set in Star Wars than a Star Wars show, if that makes sense. Like how some tv shows do a random musical episode. Its fine for what it is, but we all know its not the main focus. Andor is cool in its place, but if you try and expand it, it loses spark.
English

@SWForce4EU That’s one of the reasons why I don’t see Andor as a Star Wars show. It doesn’t follow the selfishness vs selfishness dynamic that Lucas Star Wars does. I don’t dislike it as its own thing though. Its view is morality being bendable under an imperial regime. …

@robertoblake I definitely misread this at first that "buying an audience" is better and I thought you got hacked 😂
English

@robertoblake Wife and I have considered it but haven’t done it yet. Been looking at getting a starlink and using it on the train to get some work done though.
English

Don't know the timing but at some point this year, I want to do the cross-continental train trip from NY to California.
Would likely vlog the whole thing and use the trip to do more writing for the revised edition of my first book and to finish the second book.
I used to do train trips with my family when I was a little kid and I remember how fun and exciting it felt.
Haven't done it as an adult and I feel like it would be an interesting adventure and a way to also get some more inspiration with a change of scenery.
Have any of you done a long train trip as an adult?
What was it like?

@JediPeter @ButtercupPB @ScriptTrooper 90% of retail at places like this are for people doing gift shopping for others. These are things men will be gifted and then say thank you and force a smile and put it in the trash.
English

@ButtercupPB @ScriptTrooper Oh I know, I worked in the mall when they first introduced Ocean back in college. I just think B&BW licensing this was a misstep if their goal was more men. Feels more like it’s there for women to buy FOR men rather than something men will go seek out.
English

@JediPeter @ScriptTrooper Bath and Body Works has been marketing men’s products for a long time. I have no idea how successful they’ve been at it, but this appears to be an attempt to draw in more men to that product line.
English

@ButtercupPB @ScriptTrooper Just not sure which man is going to go search this out. Most men won't end up in a B&BW on accident, and the ones that go for things for a collectible item...don't...generally...shower. Stereotypes in play, but this feels like a misstep.
English

@anthony_lipira @ScriptTrooper I think it has more to do with the fact that this display is INSIDE a Bath & Body Works.
English

@ScriptTrooper I agree, but the picture is a bad example. Every item imaginable has been made into Star Wars merch since the inception of the franchise.

@AlexAndBooks_ Is it generally the same? Yes. But precision in language matters IMO so I say NO, but no less valuable necessarily. Its listening not reading. We have a different word for it. That's my only quibble in the conversation.
English

Do audiobooks count as reading?
40% of Americans say that listening to audiobooks doesn’t count as reading.
Here's what the science says:
“The theory of learning styles has been debunked,” said Nadine Gaab, the Professor in Learning Differences at Harvard Graduate School of Education. “It’s not the case that someone learns better by listening or by reading. You may have a preference, but learning is sort of the same regardless of the modality. ”
The neural networks that process written and oral language are deeply intertwined and largely overlap when reading print books or listening to audiobooks.
“There isn’t much of a difference between the brain network for reading and the brain network for language comprehension,” said Gaab.
“If you’re a good reader as an adult, it does not matter whether you read it or you listen to an audiobook,” said Gaab. “We all start as listeners to audiobooks. As children, we were sitting in our parents’ laps while they read books to us. So, we all have been audiobook lovers at some point in our lives.”
What are your thoughts on audiobooks?

@robertoblake Facts. AI is a generator. You still have to take that power (code) generated and link it to things to make anything happen.
English

Coding is the only thing that vibe coding eliminates.
You still need specific domain knowledge and to understand basic web dev terms and have a basic understanding of the capabilities of the APIs you’re utilizing as well as security posture.
It only really shifts the manual labor to all begin cognitive load as the human in the loop.
It’s scales for speed and can overcome some (but not all) knowledge gaps.
But you’d still have to be a systems oriented snd object oriented thinker in order to make something robust.
