In kids, I don't usually go higher than 20mg in my outpatient setting. It does seem odd that your protocol allows a higher dose for kids than adults. Maybe treating different problems?

Had a great Q from a student that I couldn't answer. Local guidelines permit up to 12mg (600mcg/kg) of oral / IV Dex for paed asthma & croup. Max adult dose is 8mg for asthma / COPD. Wondering why an older / heavier paed could end up with a higher dose of Dex than an adult?

Since many people are seeing this…I’ll add this for my medical friends: Early in COVID Children’s hospitals made huge changes to care for adults in order to assist with the incredible surge. We need the same creativity, flexibility and bravery from our adult hospitals now.
