Iga Swiatek said in her post match conference that she retired as she's been suffering with some sort of virus that she's picked up in Madrid in the the last couple of days.

@pavyg She got injured today and announced a retirement. From the very beginning, it was clear she felt off today, even during practice, you could see she wasn’t feeling well.

Despite Rafa Nadal helping Iga Swiatek earlier this month her poor form continues. Since Nadal was working with Swiatek she has now lost in her 2nd matches in both Stuggart and Madrid on her favourite surface. She retired after a mystery illness today.

Iga Swiatek nightmare season continues, she retires when losing 0-3 0-30 in the deciding set against Ann Li. It was an unusual illness that seemed to suddenly impact her, Swiatek had recently been getting some coaching with Rafa Nadal at his academy.
