We need to remain unified - not just for AP level but also for those areas such as theatres/ITU/ED where ODPs are now working alongside other HCPs in the same space, delivering safe patient care. AfC needs an overhaul - division isn’t the answer

As ODPs who have progressed outside of theatre the glass ceilings that have had to be broken to progress were more than our nursing colleagues have to go through. AfC needs changing but career progression cannot be a justifiable reason for nurses to have a separate spine

This is a vital consultation for all ODPs and will massively affect teamworking and collaboration in the operating theatre. We can't have two professions of equal standard on different pay scales. AfC needs changing but this is not the answer in my opinion

@scfc151 FICM made NMP mandatory in the course in 2019. There are some amazing ODPs who qualified before this date smashing it despite the lack of NMP, however this change closed the door (for now) to ODP applications which is a shame

@scfc151 No, as the law doesn’t allow for ODPs to prescribe so cannot undertake the course - you can’t even sit the course and not take the exams. Some unis are now offering an introduction to NMP course specifically for those who can’t - but yes, ACCP is off limits for new ODP entrants

@LevelOdp have any ODPs managed to do non medical prescribing? Seems like its a massive hurdle in the way to move onto an ACCP role?

@syl79 @FamilyODP @CollegeODP I think it’s always worth applying and interviewing. So many trusts are now seeing the value ODPs in these roles are bringing to the table. There’s so many that can be referenced now in either trainee roles or qualified and it’s being recognised. Know your worth and value

@LevelOdp @FamilyODP @CollegeODP Thank you for your reply. I was considering a position but in all honesty due to the nature of the role I believe the prescribing issue would have been a huge hinderance. Annoying! Doubt there’ll be many chances to interview for a similar positions 🤷🏻‍♀️😒 gutted!

@syl79 @FamilyODP @CollegeODP It is limiting in some trusts which is a shame, I’m currently about to end my time as a trust ACP project lead and writing an inclusive standard JD. Advanced practice is more than just prescribing and some trusts really embrace that but ultimately does cause issues unfortunately

@syl79 @FamilyODP @CollegeODP Hi, in all honesty it isn’t ideal and needs a conversation with your line manager and scoping with your governance on how you will negotiate that issue - for me I worked in supervision for a while until competence assessed and then a case of presenting the patient and discussing

I’m once again in one of those phases where I feel a bit disheartened with theatres and the opportunities available! 😅 I’ve found a role I think would be achievable to work towards but not sure if any of the ODPs on #MedTwitter may be able to give me some advice; perfusion!
