Marriage has NEVER been solely a religious institution, except to some Christianists who insist on changing the meaning of the word

So a civil union is the secular simulation of religious institution of marriage aside of which, no secular benefit is taken from you. why is that a problem that a religious distinction exist?

I'm a clear minded scientist who relies on common sense and evidence-based reasoning. "Civil Union" is a meaningless term used to declare secular marriages as invalid.

Marriage existed long before Judaism and Christianity emerged, so it isn't reserved for just those who are adherents to those faiths.

@AngryItalianPOD @fiercepatricks No. Absolutely right. Many of our founding fathers disdained Christianity for Deism. There's no mention of Christianity in the Constitution, in fact there's a prohibition of the establishment of a STATE religion. There is no religious test to hold office either.

It cheapens it. Marriage is an institution that was designed by society (and God) to protect women and children. Gay marriage was created to allow perverts the ability to get tax breaks and legal protections as well as to infuriate society. Very very different origin stories.

Gay marriage establishes the legal precedent that marriage is a contract, not a covenant, and serves no ulterior social good. This negatively effects family law in a profound way, nullifying all legal precedent that hitherto protected the unique role of the family in society. More to the point, gay marriage establishes the social norm that sexual relations are entirely selfish, that sterility is normal, and that the sexual passions need no self control. No society following such norms can long survive. Gay marriage, in effect, abolishes marriage.

The purpose and meaning of "marriage" is the biological union that creates children and joins two FAMILIES in blood. The child IS the "marriage" because he carries blood (DNA) of both families. Allowing two non-breeding people to pretend "marriage" denies and cheapens the whole concept.
