@AndyMasley I try to do the exact opposite because 1) I don't want people to think I'm taking credit, 2) if it's interesting, I've already pointed them to follow-up reading, and 3) if I name a popularizer, someone better-informed can point me to the original discoverer!

One of my favorite discourse norms in general is applying a taboo against using intellectuals' names, basically ever, and just talking about the ideas themselves. It can be a little overwhelming when you notice just how many people's primary way of engaging with ideas is invoking high status names and using them to express relatively simple concepts. Like "Oh we know from Foucault that power dynamics are built into normal ways society is structured." etc. Just get to the idea itself and see if it can stand on its own.

Xi Jinping will definitely ask Trump for no arms sales to Taiwan after he promised not to send weapons to Iran, but I doubt Trump will do so because Trump won’t see it as a favor from Xi. Instead he will claim another victory of U.S. sanctions even China needs to respect.

I just had a 10 tweet exchange with Oliver Kamm who writes for the Times and tells me that “should of” is grammatically good English. At some those with their fingers near the levers of cultural power will have to be cleared out if we are ever to recover basic standards.
