On our way to "Rekindle the inner flame of the huddle" the @pudgypenguins managed to escape the cold winter of their home region Antarctica and made it to Japan for the beautiful Sakura spring season!🌸 It's not only spring time in Japan and the real world though! What felt like a harsh, cold, and long winter in the NFT space seems to be finally coming to an end. Lots of fresh energy and excitement can be felt in the space and even the order books. One subcommunity that held up the good vibes with amazing community activations and energy both on Twitter and especially IRL has been @PenguAsia around @FoxyPenguinApe and countless other amazing people that contributed in meaningful ways. So this piece by @FroggyCyborg is not only a celebration of the Japanese Sakura season but also a thank you to the amazing @PenguAsia community and leaders – featuring the President and Vice president for the Japanese @pudgypenguins subcommunity alongside some of the people that made it to our early bird lists by replying to the first teaser tweet for the activation. They are not trying to be a general L2, thus their guiding makes sense. They created a place where builders would want to go (given the buying power of the audience). But in downturns that buying power gets weaker and slowly is extracted out. Thus the people leave. As long as they survive, the next wave will come. I'm excited for the pudgy world integrations

Hot take: Solana didn’t push people to launch and trade memes, the community and builders made that happen. Base didn’t push people to launch and trade AI, the community and builders made that happen. Abstract has pushed people to do what they believe people should want or need on the chain. They have tried controlling the narrative and culture for what they believe is best for the ecosystem or what their preferences are. On one hand I understand trying to mold your own community but at the sake of pushing down or ignoring what the abstract community was leaning into or generating hype around, I feel like it’s detrimental to organic behavior. Part of that comes with the XP incentives, so they can lead the horse to whichever pale of water that choose which makes it evident what their goal is and what teams they are aligned with. They removed a lot of the gatekeeping that stood tall early on but now it seems like the funneling of behavior into a very narrow channel has turned off a few people. I do think AI infrastructure is important and it’s great they’re focusing on that, the transaction farming and botting behavior under the guise of “agents” is a mess to me. The community is still special to me & I do believe there are some incredible teams and games on the chain but gaming alone is not enough to bring a new chain to the winner circle and survive. Right now, it’s a war of attrition and attention between every chain that is not called Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana. The ones outside of the Big 3 that survive and thrive will be the ones where infrastructure is killer but also where community and ecosystems drive high activity with higher onchain volume. Build the town. Provide the tools. And get out of your own way to let the people be the source of success.
