Hailey Wentz, a former East Carolina University student, is living proof that sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone – at any age. In February 2025, she experienced SCA. Because a trained athletic trainer was present and ready to respond, Hailey is here today to tell her story. Now she’s turning survival into purpose. Hailey partners with the American Heart Association and other heart health advocates to raise awareness and encourage others to become CPR certified. Her message is clear: preparation saves lives. Athletic trainers are often the first line of emergency care – trained, equipped and ready when the unthinkable happens. Hailey’s story is a powerful reminder that their expertise makes a life-changing difference.
