I'm an anarchist because my parents told me not to talk to strangers and I listened. As I grew older I realized that also meant:
Don't trust strangers with the ability to take my money
Don't put my safety and security in the hands of strangers
Don't let strangers make my health decisions
Don't let strangers decide which wars I have to go fight
Don't trust that strangers are doing it for my own good
Don't let strangers convince me that it's OK to spy on me
Don't let strangers talk to my kids about what gender they should be
Don't let strangers regulate my ability to voluntarily engage in commerce or choose who to associate with
Don't let strangers dictate the value of my currency
..and on and on. I don't care how many speeches a politician gives, how many commercials they run, or how many promises they make that they're exercising power over me "for my own good".
They're strangers to me, and I don't trust strangers.
