During Women’s History Month, my team and I proudly placed a photo of Congresswoman Bella Abzug in our D.C. office. Known as “Battling Bella,” she represented New York’s 19th District and once worked out of Longworth 1507—the very office I now call mine. She was a fearless advocate for equality and helped shape legislation that continues to influence our country today. We hope Congresswoman Abzug, donning her iconic hat, inspires everyone who walks through our doors.

Today in D.C., Everytown for Gun Safety stopped by to discuss a path to preventing the gun violence tragedies occuring in our country. Thanks for the visit @Everytown!

TSA, Coast Guard, FEMA, CISA, and many other DHS employees have missed their first full paycheck due to the partial shutdown. I’m proud to stand with my House Democratic colleagues in supporting @rosadelauro’s discharge petition to force a vote that will fund DHS without providing another dime to ICE until the Administration agrees to Democratic reforms.

I joined my Democratic colleagues today to visit the commemorative plaque that honors the officers who protected our Nation’s Capitol on January 6th, 2021. After years of waiting for this to be displayed, the plaque was put up in the middle of the night under a stairwell in the Capitol. My Republican colleagues may try but, we will never forget the brave officer’s sacrifice and threat to our democracy that day.

After 3 years of obstruction from Republican leadership, Congress is finally honoring the bravery of the thousands of officers who responded to the violent insurrectionists that stormed our nation’s Capitol.  This is more than a plaque – it is a solemn reminder of the heroism hundreds of officers from across Washington showed on January 6th when Donald Trump and his followers attempted to upend our democracy.  House Democrats will continue to fight for those officers who had the courage to defend the Capitol, the Constitution, and the peaceful transfer of power when it mattered most.

Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy St. Patrick’s Day today! I look forward to celebrating my Irish Heritage in D.C. today and then back home in Westchester and the Bronx with you.

On the House Floor this afternoon debating H.R. 1422, the Enhanced Iran Sanctions Act. As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I am working with my colleagues to demand accountability from the Trump Administration and put polices in place that protect Americans from harm in this time of uncertainty.

We join in prayer for the community of West Bloomfield, MI, as they are faced with an anti-semitic attack so many fear when they enter a place of worship. The divisions in our society are propelling violent behavior, and we need our passions to cool, and tolerance and reason to take the place of anger and resentment.
