@PhilipProudfoot It's astounding isn't it that someone can announce themselves joint leader without the smallest 'by-your-leave' to the people grafting in our union branches, communities and campaigns - presumably the ground force for a new nomenklatura @zarahsultana

@kategarraway @GMB what is wrong with you people. What the Israeli Government has done these past 3 weeks, have far outweighed the actions of Hamas. But you are all blinded Palestinian Journalist Dismantles Host’s Israeli Propaganda youtu.be/t6SzskBrND4?si… via @YouTube

@RogersHistory Maybe post-shock & obvious condemnation, don't historians (educators generally) have a responsibility to go beyond the immediate horror? If our concern is serious don't we need to try & help others & ourselves understand the context and history? What would you suggest to read?

I completely understand the calls for ceasefire/halt to offensive etc, but the bit I don’t get is what Israel can/should do instead? Hamas have hostages and are continuing to fire rockets after killing 1,500 civilians, what is the answer? No ground offensive, so?

Ashworth says the root problem of people crossing the channel is criminal gangs. Surely the root problem is why they've fled from their homes in the first place? I guess dealing with crimal gangs is easier than developing an ethical foreign policy (as Robin Cook found out)

@RobP79 @halfon4harlowMP Exactly…. So this is the opportunity for engagement. Despite trying to avoid showing a direct stake, they will spend this week celebrating ‘A’ Level results and promoting universities on all the news outlets.

It’s unacceptable that some still haven’t received their results due to the marking and assessment boycott. I am calling on all parties to get back around the table to put students first and ensure those awaiting results get them urgently. My letter to the UCEA and UCU 👇

@singram999 @halfon4harlowMP Leadership would blow the myth that the government has no direct stake in this & similar disputes. @halfon4harlowMP offers comforting piety not the serious engagement he would opt for if really worried about the impact of the boycott on students.

@halfon4harlowMP This is laudable in sentiment, but lacking in substance. Can the government not arrange round table talks, and commit to work to a settlement. Show some leadership, rather than statements.

Labours Bridget Phillipson is asked about six refugees drowning in the channel, & in her reply she talks about the criminal gangs & the asylum backlog. She doesn't mention creating safe routes so people fleeing war & persecution don't have to drown trying to get here

Lawyers who game our asylum system by lying are a stain on the legal profession. Today I chaired a roundtable with @AlexChalkChelt, regulators and members of our new taskforce to crack down on rogue lawyers and support more prosecutions.

@AaronBastani '... entering politics'? Politics is a career choice then - something you enter - and it's perfectly good to fast-track bright young things?

Keir Mather comes across as perfectly capable, and age should be no barrier to entering politics, but there is something deeply jarring about a guy who left uni a few years ago, worked for the CBI, & thinks taking 250k kids out of poverty isn’t a priority

@johnharris1969 Serious credible candidates deliberately excluded from the short list should stand as #IndependentLabour candidates - risks notwithstanding. Why else would the @UKLabour apparat have any reason to moderate its undemocratic practices?

@MayorJD Stand as an independent? I don't understand why individuals with a good track record as local representatives don't stand as Independent Labour candidates when excluded by the apparat.

Thank you to everybody for all the thousands of messages of love and support. I’ve been blown away. There were just too many to reply individually, but I’ve read them all and I really appreciate each one. Solidarity. Sign up to my newsletter at eepurl.com/gRxsjH

I’ve been barred from standing as North East Mayor by @UKLabour. No explanation has been given. I’m proud to have created thousands of jobs, fought child poverty, built affordable homes and delivered our Green New Deal. I believe in democracy. Share if you do too. More to follow.

The Holodomor was an act of deliberate mass starvation by Stalin's Russia that claimed the lives of 1 in 8 Ukrainians. Yesterday I called for Parliament to officially recognise it as a genocide.

@Trickyjabs Is stroking the political aspirations of marginal groupuscules our only alternative? Time better spent activating a union branch, organising a repair caf, setting up a residents group? Dusting down my very old copy of #ColinWard's classic ... :)

If you're a left wing uk voter, you obviously can't vote Labour any more, Starmer's made that clear. You just need to make a decision over the next 12 months to find peace with the imperfections of the Greens, SNP, Plaid, TUSC, Breakthrough, NIP, etc and pick one to vote for.
