@wrdsb Area model, algebra tiles, and algebraic solution - use at least 2 ways to demonstrate your understanding! Love it!

Worked with a single-streamed 2D class in @wrdsb today completing some expand and simplify using algebra tiles. It was magical! We had builders, recorders and checkers in groups of three after the algebra tiles were introduced.

@AngelaS09365715 Yes and yes! Love algebra tiles. And then after they develop proficiency with the manipulatives I love when introducing them to the area model as the follow up connection.

@mrsbistro @JC3Sandy I have been using small group instruction in my grade 10 destreamed math class for the same reason :). It has been such an effective strategy to meet all kids where they are at and push them forward! I now set my alarm clock to keep me to 15-20 minutes per group! Lol

Small group instruction in #MTH1W: I have a significant gap in the skills of my Ss this semester. With @JC3Sandy's help, we're trying the small group strategy this week to see what impact it has. 1/n

CYU Day combined with small group instruction. It has been a game changer in my grade 10 single-streamed math. Have you tried it? Gives students accountability for their own learning. 27 students-all working! #thinkingclassroom #WRDSB #teachingmath

Conceptual understanding - the more I learn…the less I know! What is the best method you have used to teach subtraction of integers? “Bucket of zeros”, “opposite of”, “number lines”, or…? I would love to hear your ideas!
