the most impressive thing about college lectures is they somehow manage to be MORE boring that staring at a wall in silence.

Storms in northern Iowa will be mainly hailers, since they're north of the warm front. That means they're riding atop a shallow lip of cool surface air.

I have a great idea! LOOK BOTH WAYS before pulling out into oncoming traffic that does NOT have a stop sign! This chaser was fixated on the storm, holding a camera out the window when I had to maneuver around him to avoid locking up the brakes. If you struggle at multi-tasking just stay home!

What a beautiful storm on 3D volumetric, with a perfect representation of shear, a dynamic pipe, and clear inflow.

Central Wisconsin’s abundance of softwood trees is leading to a worsening situation as ice continues to accumulate. Softwood trees often drop branches during icing events to reduce weight on the tree. Those branches hit power lines, leading to widespread outages. Update:

This family JUST walked inside their house, and within 20 seconds, a branch came down right where they were walking. This is why you should NOT go underneath tree limbs during an ice storm.

Update from Stevens Point, WI, where we are approaching 0.5” of freezing rain accumulation. South side of the city is without power with more tree limbs coming down across a majority of the city.

I don’t think people realize much Ice folks in the Midwest will get tomorrow. Ice Accumlations could reach over 0.5”, which is enough to CRIPPLE the Power Grid and cause significant travel delays. This Ice storm is the REAL DEAL my Brotheren

The SPC has issued a Mesoscale Discussion for southwestern Oklahoma, as the tornado threat is expected to ramp up over the next couple of hours within Tornado Watch 86. Storms are organizing and strengthening near the triple point around Childress, Texas, and recent severe wind gusts have already been observed there. As this activity pushes into warmer, more humid air and a more unstable environment, storms should gain intensity, with winds increasing and turning with height as the evening low-level jet strengthens. That setup supports stronger, more persistent rotating storms, so the tornado risk, including the potential for some strong tornadoes, should increase into southwestern Oklahoma, along with the risk for very large hail and damaging wind gusts.
