@Shane__Willett @bmfshow Kids do find it useful though and in a couple years they will be adult users. In my opinion, it is better for the medium this way, than the other day around. (Obviously it would be great to also have more adult users already)

@bmfshow Sadly I’ve been in all 3 iterations of the Quest.. the community still remains young boys. I just use it to show off that I keep wasting money on useful tech that no one else finds useful. They are so many kids on this.. who are the adult owners besides me?

@RJdoesVR @MrPotam @CMDannCA Technically you should be able to do whatever you want in fully immersive mode, if not, that's unity being weird. But the limits are definitely there for volume stuff, which don't even allow you to use metal directly, but some weird layer on top.

@MrPotam @CMDannCA Yeah… you need to use custom shader graph nodes to do either even a little bit… there’s some odd limitations to rendering for AVP since Unity has to “convert” all materials to Metal

Ok, the good news is AVP can handle Unity's physics very very well, much better than any standalone I've tried. Haven't fully stress tested yet, but it was buttery smooth in headset vs stuttery in the simulator

@ThePlanetariYUM @TimSweeneyEpic As a developer I already can do whatever I want with it :) And fortunately EU laws are now requiring apple to offer some of that freedom to everyone. I doubt that Apple would call macOS a substandard experience. But I paid for my iPhone so I can use apps that use their frameworks

Apple's plan to thwart Europe's new Digital Markets Act law is a devious new instance of Malicious Compliance. They are forcing developers to choose between App Store exclusivity and the store terms, which will be illegal under DMA, or accept a new also-illegal anticompetitive scheme rife with new Junk Fees on downloads and new Apple taxes on payments they don't process. Apple proposes that it can choose which stores are allowed to compete with their App Store. They could block Epic from launching the Epic Games Store and distributing Fortnite through it, for example, or block Microsoft, Valve, Good Old Games, or new entrants. The Epic Games Store is the #7 software store in the world (behind the 3 console stores, 2 mobile stores, and Steam on PC). We're determined to launch on iOS and Android and enter the competition to become the #1 multi-platform software store, on the foundation of payment competition, 0%-12% fees, and exclusive games like Fortnite. Epic has always supported the notion of Apple notarization and malware scanning for apps, but we strongly reject Apple's twisting this process to undermine competition and continue imposing Apple taxes on transactions they're not involved in. There's a lot more hot garbage in Apple's announcement. It will take more time to parse both the written and unwritten parts of this new horror show, so stay tuned.

@jbverschoor @TimSweeneyEpic Actually if you use Unreal on EGS you still only pay 12%. But if I release my game on EGS for iOS using apples new terms I would now also have to pay the 50ct install fee on top of that to apple. Which may be acceptable for a game that costs 10€, but is unsustainable for f2p.

@TimSweeneyEpic The Epic Game Store takes 12% of the revenue (worse for smaller companies than Apple). However, you ALSO take a 5% fee regardless of the distribution platform for the Unreal engine. That's more than the 15% Apple charges for certain types of payments/subscriptions.

@neelbedekar Is there any documentation on how to implement dynamic resolution for GPU level 5 natively? The way I found to figure out if resolution needs to be reduced is XR_META_performance_metrics, but it states: "The application should not change its behavior based on the counter reads."

Hey Quest devs/users! Meta Connect 2023 is here, and I'm excited to give a talk about maximizing Quest compute performance! Tune in at 2PM PST to learn: * How large the Meta Quest 3 compute budget is. * Most importantly, how to utilize the new hardware most effectively.

@SadlyItsBradley Makes sense. The first half of 2022 was great for VR and then they raised the price for Quest 2 and nobody bought headsets anymore. Since the price drop and Q3 announcement my player numbers have been increasing again. I expect the next quarters numbers to look better.

@benz145 Hand occlusion is pretty simple if you have good depth data. And in a $3500 device I’d hope they have good sensors for that 🤷‍♂️

@citrakya @UploadVR The difference with this is that nobody needs to be in denial about the children anymore and instead meta can tell developer if someone is a child or not. This will also make it easier to separate them from older players or just mute them automatically.
