You can argue whether the decision was morally justified, but pretending it was “unnecessary” ignores the military reality of August 1945.

Look, genius, nuking Nagasaki and Hiroshima was objectively immoral and unnecessary. Immoral because it was a direct attack on noncombatants. Unnecessary because Japanese officials offered to give allies, via Swiss intermediaries, to surrender - with one condition. That one condition was immunity for the emperor from war crimes. Ultimately unconditional surrender was secured, but the emperor was granted the very immunity the Japanese asked for months earlier.

Christianity has never taught that all use of force is immoral. For over 1,500 years, Christian thinkers developed Just War Theory: war may be morally permissible if it has a just cause (such as defending innocent lives), is authorized by a legitimate government, is a last resort, uses proportional force, and distinguishes combatants from civilians. You can disagree about whether a particular war meets those standards, but saying a Christian can never support military action isn’t consistent with historic Christian teaching.
