Here's a graph of what race alone does to your odds of getting into Columbia, holding everything measurable equal. Race is the single biggest factor in admission odds.

NEW: UC San Diego has released a new report documenting a “steep decline in the academic preparedness” of its freshmen. The number of entering students needing remedial math has exploded from 1/100 to 1/8. They’ve had to create a second remedial class covering elementary and middle school math skills in addition to the one covering gaps from high school. 🧵

If you *only* used SAT to admit to elite colleges, share of admits from top 1% income falls 15.8% → 9.9% and representation from <$200k rises by +8.8%, with no reduction in post-college outcomes. @CBradleyThomps1 @DeAngelisCorey @BillAckman @elonmusk They are definitely not weighted the same. As someone who has designed an online course and mock SAT tests, if you trigger the easy second section you max out around 640 points in the verbal and lower in the math.

🚨🚨🚨 Scandal alert??? @DeAngelisCorey , @BillAckman, @elonmusk Last night I received an email from a parent who told me that the SAT has gone digital & is now using what the College Board calls "adaptive" testing. He noted there was a 300 point difference in scores between an older child who took the old paper test and two younger siblings who recently took the digital test. The SAT is now divided into 2 modules. If you score poorly on the 1st module, you get easier questions on the 2nd module. If you score well on the 1st module, you get harder questions on the 2nd module. (This is adjusted by the algorithm.) If the College Board scores the points given on the 2nd-round module equally between the harder and easier modules rather than weighted differently, then weaker students are aided by the new SAT and stronger students punished. The question is this: are the 2nd-round modules weighted the same or differently? If they are weighted the same, then the College Board is implementing the Marxian principle, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need." nypost.com/2024/03/06/us-…
