Most guides and quizzes I've made on IG have assumed a basic level of knowledge about Russian military vehicles - but for beginners here's some vehicle ID at a basic level with a quick description of ID points and capabilities. Also up on the website for digital download.

Challenger 2 OES thread 1/ The OES Challenger 2, known in military parlance as the Operational Entry Standard (OES) – often synonymous with Theatre Entry Standard (TES) – represents an advanced tier of armoured capability, a step above the baseline vanilla model.

The latest AI models are so strong, any reports on #war will become VERY challenging for Press. I believe even the excellent #osint community will only get you so far, before genAI totally obstructs reality. How many are real or fake? How long does it take to spot the fake? #ukraine #russia #nato #china #genai Big challenges ahead, cc @ronzheimer @ennolenze .

ok lets look at something the T90M no its not a new tank... its about 31 years old..... 1. its big thing was its french made sight... 2. it uses a similar engine from a T72 (WWII vintage) 3. similar auto loader from a T72 4. similar gun from a T-72 5. its too small to be considered a heavy tank (48 tons) 6. its too heavy to be considered a light tank 7. produces 500 HP less than a M1 8. is 12km slower than a M1 9. is 20 years newer than a M1 10. has 22 less tons of armor than a M1 11. its remote gun hardly ever works, not protected 12. it can fire long range guided rounds, but they are rare 13. the russian made sight sucks, and they cant get the french one any more 14. we have vid of a T-90 being taken out by a RPG, from the front, hitting the thickest place on the tank.. and killing it. 15. the most advanced armor on the tank is.. simple steel. they say some plastic and aluminum is in it but come on... its steel blocks. 16. the gun can not go to -10 deg, this means no hull down shooting. 17. the tracks are too thin so it sinks in the mud faster 18. we know that kontact 5 armor is a joke compared to the west, and many boxes are filled with wood or plastic. all in all its a dated tank that i hope they keep building while ukraine learns and gets new generation western tanks that will save lives. but will unfortunately remove them (ukraine) from the turret launch events.

@TallbarFIN Germany helped Finland in 1918 as well, although having its own motivations in both instances Germany was the only outside power Finland could leverage to keep its independence.

Finnish companion in arms with Germans during World War II has become today's political pawn when Russia tries to paint Finland as an enemy. Topic is undeniably controversial, to understand it you have to dive deeper into the causes and consequences. 🧵 #Finland #WW2

@ChungTzuW @RALee85 So not all T-80s then, interesting - either way that is still not a T-80 in the video owing to the smoke coming from an exhaust on the tank’s side

@TankDiary @RALee85 This is not strictly true. Only T-80s built after 1985 do not have the TDA equipment.

Russian T-64’s of various models (A,B,BV) that have been pulled from storage, the 2000 T-64’s in Russian stock in 2014 were supposed to have been scrapped, I don’t believe that ever happened due to the amount of T-64’s I’ve seen come from Russia, or if it did it was a very slow process. These tanks will likely replace the DNR military tank losses, the DNR’s army mainly operate T-64’s.

Video of a relatively rare tank duel between a Ukrainian T-64 tank and what looks like a Russian T-72B3 with a roof screen near Stepove. The Russian tank deploys a smoke screen as it retreats, and survives an FPV strike that apparently jammed its turret. t.me/khornegroup/11…

1/ The effects of rodents on AFV’s Rodents have long been a problem for infantry in the trenches, but a lesser known fact is the issue of rodents when they embed themselves in armoured fighting vehicles.

A video of a tank getting hit by an ATGM and surviving will always get far fewer views and retweets than when a tank is destroyed in a huge fire ball. This gives people a false understanding of the vulnerability of tanks, and often leads to poor analysis. Just a regular reminder.
Rob Lee@RALee85

Video of a Russian tank surviving an ATGM strike (the source claims it was from tank fire) after firing on Ukrainian positions. The video shows the wreckage of several destroyed tanks or IFVs. t.me/btr80/12473
