How often do we try to follow Christ on our own terms? How often do we say, “I will serve, but only when it fits my schedule,” or “I will forgive, but only when they deserve it,” or “I will be faithful, but only when it’s easy”?
If Christ had approached His mission with the same hesitation, there would have been no Atonement. No redemption. No hope. His perfect submission to the Father’s will was not conditional—it was complete.

In a new video message, President Dallin H. Oaks of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints urges Church members and friends of the faith to study Christ’s teachings and establish Christ-centered Easter traditions.“As we enter this new year, let us prepare for an Easter celebration of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, culminating in His Resurrection — the most glorious event in history,” says President Oaks, speaking on behalf of the entire First Presidency.

When you ask God for guidance about decisions in your life—including some important decisions—He may not give you a detailed answer.
The truth is that sometimes it doesn’t matter to the Lord what you decide as long as you stay within the fundamental covenants and principles of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
There are times when God has a specific path He wants you to follow. There are also times when He will warn you against certain choices because of dangers you can’t foresee. But then there are times when a question has multiple “right” answers, and you can find joy in any of them as long as you live by God’s eternal truths.
You may not see it until much later, but you will look back and know that the Lord never abandoned you, even when He let you make some decisions for yourself. You will see that the dots do connect.

We come to church not to hide our problems but to heal them. It is not an automobile showroom—a place to put ourselves on display so that others can admire our spirituality, capacity, or prosperity.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is more like a service center, where vehicles in need of repair come for maintenance and rehabilitation.
And are we not all in need of repair, maintenance, and rehabilitation?
Artificial discipleship not only keeps us from seeing ourselves as who we really are, but it also prevents us from truly changing through the miracle of the Savior’s Atonement.
The Savior’s Church is a place of healing, not a place of despair, judgment, or sorrow. Jesus Christ, and living His restored gospel, can make of us the genuine, spiritual being of light and truth we desire to be.

@robezenk @RonaldARasband @Ch_JesusChrist It's clear no matter what either of us share there will be some sort of a disagreement and that's ok. I don't see it the way you do and you don't see it the way I do. I can't speak for you and your experience and nor can you with mine. I've enjoyed our dialogue. Thank you!
English

@TrueNorthChiro @RonaldARasband @Ch_JesusChrist No worries! It's not offensive. It's just cartoonishly cliché. You couldn't be more stereotypical if you lived in Utah and owned a minivan with a BYU sticker.

My 1970 vintage edition of the Book of Mormon is precious to me. By its appearance it is tired and worn, but no other book is as important to my life and my testimony as this one.
Because of this special book, I gained a witness by the Spirit that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He is my Savior, that the scriptures are the word of God, and that the gospel is restored.
English

"Never denied" is an absence of evidence argument, but when their names and credibility were tied to the statement (prepared and signed by Oliver Cowdery) and considering they all had DEEP personal ties to Joseph Smith-including blood relations, I don't see why they would go out of their way to admit they were fooled into spiritual seeing.
Their actions are more compelling than their words. It's not the win members pretend it is.
English

@robezenk @RonaldARasband So in other words you are saying that Joseph Smith was a literary genius? How do you explain Jacob 5, chiasmus in Alma 36, the names of Pahoran, Paanchi, Pacumeni, the clear change of voice in the writings from Nephi to Jacob, the geography, dialogue throughout by Mormon??
English

Jeffrey...your assumption of 65 days is the Mormon church's reckoning. In reality, you have to widen that window by YEARS. Lucy Mack Smith's biography talks about Joseph regaling them with stories of ancient Americans for hours on end as a youth. There were years of preparation before the "translation" began...AND you've failed to address the fact that even the Mormon Church admitted it was not a translation (from reformed Egyptian to English). It was dictated by an occult scrying method from a rock in a hat.
English

@robezenk @RonaldARasband I think they are very credible. Even though Whitmer never came back to 'Mormonism' he never denied the Book of Mormon. And I'm aware of Martin Harris following Strang for a time, but he came back and never denied his witness. Same with Cowdery. He left, came back and never denied
English

@TrueNorthChiro @RonaldARasband Joseph Smith called the witnesses: liars, thieves, counterfeiters, etc.
David Whitmer said God himself told him Mormonism was wrong.
Martin Harris was a religious lunatic, witnessed Strang's plates, and joined 5 other churches.
The witnesses are not credible at all.
English

@robezenk @RonaldARasband @Ch_JesusChrist I'm sorry if that came across as offensive. That wasn't my intention.
English

This is very cliché of you to bring up, Jeffrey. I expected more.
It's also completely irrelevant to the validity of the BoM. Just another thought stopper, but I'll play your game.
I see you need to frame me as angry--emotion is the way Mormons decide what's true. Facts don't care about your feelings (or mine)--real or perceived.
Trying to shame people for speaking about the church is laughable when the church is sending out an army of 50,000 to knock on the doors of private homes pushing their religion. The church doesn't leave people alone.
That saying is a silly coping/scare tactic-like Ballard's "Where will you go if you leave the church?"
English

@robezenk @RonaldARasband @Ch_JesusChrist Neal A. Maxwell said, "Some leave the Church, but they can't leave the Church alone." That seems to explain you and your behaviors. Why do you have so much beef with the @Ch_JesusChrist? I can tell you have anger and frustration. I'm sorry you feel that way.
English

@TrueNorthChiro @RonaldARasband And @ch_jesuschrist really is the one who should account for the method since they are the ones making the divine claims. ESPECIALLY while maintaining the GA's are the only ones who can speak for the church.
What's more likely in your mind? Joseph or this:

English

@robezenk @RonaldARasband Another big evidence, the Testimony of the 3 and 8 Witnesses. Several of them left the Church, but none of them ever denied their witness of the divinity and reality of the Gold Plates and The Book of Mormon. Why were they willing to stay firm in their witness? Esp David Whitmer?
English

@robezenk @RonaldARasband As far as evidence to prove the Book of Mormon is true, I have several. One of those is Jacob 5 on the Allegory of the Olive Tree. There is no way that Joseph Smith could explain in such detail the methods of pruning, grafting and caring for Olive trees, especially in New England
English

@robezenk @RonaldARasband I don't have any problem with the way Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon. Using a seer stone in his hat or the Urim and Thummim, I'm ok with that. Remember, all Christians readily accept that Mary conceived by The Holy Ghost (Mat 1:20). Arguably a stretch to believe, eh?
English

@TrueNorthChiro @RonaldARasband Regardless of the tired talking points that "the BoM is too sophisticated to come from dumb ol' Joe" you must at least acknowledge the Church's official position on how it was translated is FAR down on the list of plausible methods.

English

@robezenk @RonaldARasband The Title Page openly says "If there are faults they are the mistakes of men." Just like the Bible has mistakes. Also, who could've written a book of this grandeur in 65 working days? Even the best authors in the world like Tolkien took him 12 years to write Lord of The Rings.
English

@TrueNorthChiro @RonaldARasband Not only is the one who wrote it, he's the only one who could have written it.
Keep in mind, you're reading the 8th edition after thousands of edits and being taught he was just some dumb farm boy so you're determined to treat it as a miracle.
