This is the crucial factor, nation is a behavioral institution that is in essence a biological organism or collective organism's adaptation to an ecology (a land). It has a unique character tied to the geography and survival conditions there, hence each nationalism and tribal-impulse ideology has unique features while the survival impulse is shared.

When you understand politics as war by other means, when you understand the friend/enemy distinction, this "Iranian's" behavior makes sense.
