@hamboneZA The article has been corrected - they're going to stop issuing the books by the end of the year, not make them invalid. Presumably this means that naturalized and PR will be able to get cards by the end of the year.

OK, but permanent residency and naturalised citizens are not available on the card so I have some concerns etc and so forth and so on. Do not fuck this up like every other population and ID system reboot that has ever been conducted in SA, going back further than the dompas.

@FreeInduna @hamboneZA The tariffs have not returned to what they were before the drought. But you claimed we are still paying "Day Zero" tariffs which is not true. The current "Water Wise" tariffs are much lower than the level 6 "Day Zero" tariffs.

It's there to change behaviour (in addition to make money for the City) - water scarcity is real and when drought comes again, which it will, we'll be more resilient. That's my take, likely an unpopular one.

@adrianfrith That is sad indeed. Does this actually mean that it will be totally impossible to make maps based on small area data from the census 2022, comparable with the ones from the 2011 census ?

It appears that Stats SA will only be releasing data at ward level, and not small area level. This is ... not good.

@CathrynR Voëlvlei continues to vex.
The serious answer is, it's an off-channel reservoir filled by canals that divert water from the rivers flowing off the Groot Winterhoek. This means it can't take the full flow of the rivers, only the fraction that the weir/canal system allows.
