@Cornishview On higher ground you could see Rugeley, Drakelow, (very close to me) Willington and Ratcliffe power stations on a clear day, used to take coal to Rugeley from Silverdale mine back in the day, now building houses on Drakelow, remember when last cooling towers were demolished

In the 60's I worked as junior Engineer and dogsbody on many of the new Power Stations built by the river Trent and Notts Coalfields. Watching people cheering as they are demolished, with no alternative in place - really saddens me and illustrates the stupidity of virtue seeking Politicians. It used to take 7 years to build a big sation.

Wow! This is a real rarity in the UK, spotted & snapped in Morden, south London, earlier this morning. It’s a ’63 Mercury Monterey 4-door sedan, which was a ‘breezeway’ car, in other words it was equipped with a roll-down rear screen. It also had a 390cu in (6391cc) V8 engine. 💪

Rush hour crowds hurry across London Bridge in the late 1950s or early 1960s. Formal and orderly, men in suits and hats and ladies in dresses and gloves.

I know you mean well, and you seem like a nice fellow, but the sheer fact that almost no one could figure out what your post means - and they have to read the comments to find out - shows how poorly written this was. Just being honest. Next time just say what people should know. They aren't mind readers.

When my great-grandmother was 93 she went in for hip surgery. Nurse told her to settle in and they’d begin in 30 minutes, when the team arrived to begin she was gone. Brings a smile to our faces every time it comes up in conversation.

So even though you could throw a stone between the source of the two streams near the summit of Beinn nam Fuaran, the two water courses end up meeting the sea 140 miles apart. One near Oban (River Awe) one at Dundee (River Tay). A fascinating if niche study! /END

This is Beinn nam Fuaran (hill of the wells) in the Central Highlands of Scotland. On first inspection, a hill like any other. Green, boggy, 2,644 ft (806 m) high, with streams running off it. So what? For niche geography lovers it has a great deal of interest. 1/n

@BrandonLansdown The priestly and ceremonial aspects no longer apply, as Christ is our High Priest and we are the temple. But God still prospers the Jews today according to the old covenant, as per Genesis 31:42 for example

@clivemacd It’s been fulfilled in Christ and was literally physically destroyed in AD 70, but somehow still applies? I can’t imagine.

The New Testament leaves no room for a special theological status for ethnic Israel, the modern nation-state of Israel, or Judaism as a religious covenantal system apart from Christ. The old covenant has been fulfilled and rendered obsolete in Him; the promises find their Yes in Jesus; and God’s people are now one unified body through faith in Christ alone. There is no dual track, no ongoing national covenant, no separate destiny for Israel outside incorporation into the church, the true Israel of God. The New Covenant church inherits every promise: chosen race, royal priesthood, holy nation, God’s own people (1 Pet. 2:9–10, applying Ex. 19:5–6 to believers). Judaism as a religious system no longer holds covenantal validity. This should be good news to all. To reject this and insist otherwise diminishes Christ’s finished work and divides what God has united. The book of Acts is all about this.

@BrandonLansdown It is certainly true that the old covenant has been fulfilled in Christ. But the old covenant still applies according to its terms, which are clearly inadequate (Hebrews 8:7).

@clivemacd παλαιόω: things worn out by time and use; to pass; to make obsolete. The same word is used in Luke 12:33 for “wear out,” and Hebrews 1:11 for “become old” in relation to “perish.”

@BrandonLansdown These words and phrases all describe an ongoing process. 'Obsolete' represents a finality, which is why it is inappropriate.

Sounds v priggish & self-righteous of me and maybe it is but nevertheless: there is something very off about the gleefulness with which this kind of footage is shared. I dare say most professional fighting sailors would view such one-sided encounters as a sad necessity at best.

@FurkanGozukara The quote context is wrong, Netanyahu was quoting Deuteronomy 25:17 “Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you were coming out of Egypt", meaning "Remember what Hamas did to you on October 7."

Tucker Carlson brings up the undeniable fact that Benjamin Netanyahu used the biblical story of "Amalek" to explicitly call for the genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza. Huckabee attempts to defend it, but Tucker completely shuts him down by quoting the exact scripture that commands the murder of infants.

My dad used to work at a British merchant bank where there were literally no managers. The CEO used to sit at the trading desk and do sales calls. They used to laugh and scoff at the ridiculous bureaucracy of American banks and how inefficient they were. Anyways, the merchant banks all got outcompeted and his firm was bought by credit agricole

@WifiMoneyPlant I walked into a dealership 8 years ago with $20k in cash to buy a car. We sat in the financing room to talk about the price. The manager came and kicked us out. “This room is only for people who are financing,” they said. I was the only person at the dealership

Biggest "the kids are fucked" moment I've had recently was buying a car Walked into the dealership, told them what I wanted and said I'd pay up-front. Expected them to be thrilled Instead they were horrified. Spent the next 20 minutes trying to get me to finance it at some…

@EnvAgency Hello the 'report a river blockage' page says this page is for rivers but not streams. The issue is with a tributary of the river Drone in Dronfield, Derbyshire. Can you clarify, should I be using the EA report page or report to the local council. Many thanks.

Seriously, the walesonline-ification of BBC Wales is getting ridiculous. Started gradually but now it's impossible to ignore-about half of the news stories are some variant on 'I ate a pork scratching & ended up in hospital' etc. Clear editorial shift in the last few months- slop
