@chris_neto Substitutes or less frequently used alternatives need to be vetted. It seems many issues with value engineering don’t appear until commissioning phase. These impacts trust in the system. Staging in advance and verifying designs with manf. can go a long way #avintheam

@chris_neto I think you have to look at the whole picture to see whether it's really worth it or not. - What are the true "must-haves" for the space? - Can we still meet them with the same or less labor cost? - What's the impact to serviceability and longevity? Is it worth it? #AVInTheAM

Q5 How does Value Engineering impact the overall quality of AV design and installation, and where do we draw the line between cost savings and compromised performance? What is your advice on how we can reach that balance? #AVintheAm #Avtweeps

@chris_neto A huge factor that often gets overlooked in the VE process is how long will it take someone to configure/program for this new piece vs the original one. You may save $400 on hardware, but you may end up paying a programmer/AE for an extra day or more to make it work #AVInTheAM

@AVGrump @chris_neto Plenty of conference rooms out there that are for people to be brought into and impressed. Ones with marble tables and video walls instead of displays/projectors. That kinda thing has been around as long as business has. Spatial audio is just the newest shiny for it #AVInTheAM

@code_kate @chris_neto He asked about conference rooms, which are arguably the vast majority of corporate AV is used for. I would also argue how many products really need a whiz bang AV experience to sell? I think people have become sensitive in the current economy to being oversold. #avintheam

@_AVAP @chris_neto Perfect opportunity to switch focus to services instead of boxes. Be the one who helps IT get it configured, tell them about updates/critical issues, help them monitor it, offer training/support for their users. IT doesn't want to add that stuff to their workload #AVInTheAM

Q1 Is "good enough" the new AV standard for 90% of conference rooms? If so how do integrators change their business to support "Good enough"? Should they or are they missing a creative new opportunity? #AVinTheAm

@AVGrump @chris_neto I agree when it comes to general meeting spaces. Users want to just come in and get their job done with as little fuss as possible. The exception would be the rooms you're bringing clients into, where half the job is to wow them. Spatial audio could find a home there #AVInTheAM

@chris_neto Doubtful. Firstly, true meeting tech needs to be as simple as possible or else it just gets cursed. If you’re trying to get actual work done in a corporate environment you don’t need distractions such as Spatial Audio. Efficiency is more important than show. #avintheam

@DanFerrisiEdit @chris_neto It's also great at lunchtime. When I went to NAB way back when, I'd hop on the monorail and head down a couple stops to one of the hotel food courts for lunch. WAY less crowded than anything right by the convention center. #AVInTheAM

@chris_neto Seems to be a lot of manufacturers thinking stuff up and then creatives running with it in unexpected ways. Smart manufacturers take advantage of that. Soliciting user feedback is always smart. And don't forget to ask the programmers/techs working with your gear, too! #AVInTheAM

@chris_neto Think there's really 2 types of technician. AV is a mix of construction and computers. You need the ones who know how to rig anything to make sure stuff isn't falling down. Then you need the ones with laptops who can make it all talk. 2 different specialties #AVInTheAM

@chris_neto I started in broadcast TV. Was an extra set of hands that got pulled into summer classroom installs for the college I worked for. Which ended up being just as much fun as TV and much better hours 😉. The rest is history #AVInTheAM

@chris_neto It is absolutely changing. While there is still some proprietary stuff, it is opening up more and more. The trick is getting AV programmers to switch. Won't happen fully until all the half-measures are gone. Some probably never will, but next gen wants open language #AVInTheAM

@chris_neto Depends on the type of service. SaaS reduces hardware required, allowing existing infrastructure to do more. However, Hardware As A Service does the opposite. Sure, for the customer it means more energy efficiency/ less waste, etc. But the old gear piles up somewhere #AVInTheAM
