GPS receivers can be used as seismometers. In blue are the 5 Hz velocities recovered on Kodiak Island with the variometric approach for the M8.2 earthquake yesterday. In red, the collocated accelerometer, S19K, downsampled to 5 Hz.

Here's a before/after photo of raising a GPS this week. Snowfall along the EGIG transect can only be described as "redunkulous" this past winter. We lost two stations at were at 220 cm height just nine months ago. 😢
