The Cosmology Researcher Talks database hit a milestone today of 10,000 links to publicly available talk/lecture videos, data from 212 sources. 2020s avg is 1,218 /yr. A fun project & a good way for me to learn more, I'm pleased if it's useful to you. jrdmb.netlify.app/crt.html

Usually I can quickly fix software config problems. But tried fixing a Docker compose yaml problem, spent hour+ wading thru iffy GitHub & tech forum "solutions". Browser AI immediately knew right answer with just issue description, clearly identifying what caused the problem.

Ever suspected a paper you’re reading is AI slop? You can now turn on AI detection mode on alphaXiv to visualize what is written by an AI and what is not. Now available for every research paper indexed on arXiv. Integrated with the latest detection model from @pangramlabs 🚀

@BahramShakerin I wonder if @kaju_nut has any new comments about this since he wrote a long thread on bsky a year ago about Samir Mathur's work on Fuzzballs, plus Nirmalya's profile says he's writing a book on the BH information loss paradox. bsky.app/profile/did:pl…

@WKCosmo Amazing how well your drone's camera did in handling the light exposure in that scene. Awesome video!

@MinhNguyenAstro Didn't know about that service. I knew that alphaXiv will generate a summary overview on demand. Theirs on your paper: alphaxiv.org/overview/2603.…. Other features, e.g., Highlight & Ask, Comments, personal Notes, etc. Any thoughts comparing how well each did on your paper?

I posted a paper to arXiv this morning and this afternoon received in the mail an AI recap of our paper. Must be nitpicking to spot issues with this summary. Very impressed. A useful AI application esp. amid daily arXiv announcements growing so quickly! gist.science/paper/2603.201…

@four_form Home to Texas BBQ 😋 Likely too early for bluebonnet🪻season, otherwise that'd be a great two-fer. Maybe TexMex for the two-fer? 😆

@ScottDodelson A really tantalizing article and a promising "use case", looking forward to your follow-ups. I hope this gets some discussion, reposted it on bsky and reddit to see if it stimulates any there.

Thanks for all the input, if I find time I‘ll give articles/ substack a try. I‘ll continue posting in the thread format, too

I was thinking about this. Would people prefer that? The reason I like threads is that it forces me to be concise, I'm afraid articles would take more time and to engage with And then why X/twitter and not substack? Would really be interested to hearing opinions

Flourless chocolate cake, panna cotta, Irish coffees, plus a view of the fireplace from where we sat. Panna cotta was a 4-inch diameter 1/4" thick slice topped with goodies.

Astrophysicist @david_kipping reviews learnings from an AI in science meeting at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. It was so impactful he felt compelled to share it in this clear, focused, thoughtful talk. Topic timestamp links available in the Description section.

@WKCosmo @AlessandroStru4 AFAICT, Ciaran O'Hare was first to write about it arxiv.org/abs/2109.03116 Ciaran asked who coined it in x.com/cajohare/statu… and @knut_mora was mentioned; Knut started using it in 2020 & said it was "heavily inspired" by plots in Ciaran's 2002.07490 x.com/knut_mora/stat…
Knut Mora@knut_mora

@LallinaManenti @cajohare @XENONexperiment At least i _think_ this is right-- just checked and it was Aug/Sept last year i started using it, so if any use predates that, it's not me :) Also this was definitely heavily inspired by the excellent plots in 2002.07499!

The "WIMP miracle" is officially dead, and it is entirely possible that dark matter doesn't interact with the Standard Model in any way beyond gravity. A bitter pill to swallow, but an increasingly likely one.
Ethan Siegel@StartsWithABang

Dark matter’s “nightmare scenario” looks more likely than ever Perhaps dark matter cannot be directly detected; perhaps it only interacts gravitationally. That's not an argument against its existence. That's the nightmare scenario come to life! bigthink.com/starts-with-a-…
