@linasbeliunas @GergelyOrosz No, imho. Guaranteeing fair competition is a different point than what's the best/fairest service

@GergelyOrosz An argument against the competition - Apple Music is better for the artists:

Got a new iPhone, paid a lot for it. Even so: as soon as I open Settings, Apple is advertising more stuff they want to upsell. Can’t help but think: a) They can do this as it’s their platform. Right? b) Spotify & phone insurance companies have no way to compete with this…

@dakdevs @GergelyOrosz No, because Apple is using its market dominance in the Phone&OS market to gain customers in another market, i.e. insurance and streaming. It's about enabling fair competition on top of the operating system, a bit similar to the EUs ruling on Microsoft defaulting to IE on Windows

@GergelyOrosz Could this be equated to Spotify advertising for you to upgrade to premium in their app after making an account? It's not like Tidal can advertise to new Spotify users in Spotify that they should get a Tidal subscription lol.

Would you agree? In large orgs, "Stream-aligned" depends on your granularity level of the value stream. Example: A developer platform's value stream is the software development lifecycle, so a stream-aligned IDP team serves one kind of developer's end-to-end needs

The fastest, most reliable way to forge a great staff engineer? Take a great senior engineer, and put them through 2-3 years of managing a team. Rarely fails.
Karthik Hariharan@hkarthik

@GergelyOrosz @ryanlpeterman @mipsytipsy The senior managers I know going back to IC roles are able to execute like senior ICs and still able to code. Their understanding of organizational nuances also gives them super powers in a Staff+ role. So even if they are a little rusty on modern tech, it makes up for it.

@iavins Monkey-patching JSON.parse to alter one site's XHR response, and that site *detecting* it I response. Nuts. Hate Brendan for JS, but the web is one fascinating ecosystem. Stuff future CS historians will write about.

I always wondered how adblockers for YouTube worked, this post nicely explains it. Also, the cat-and-mouse chase between YouTube and adblockers. A fascinating read

Accountability is a continuous conversation, not a one-off punishment. This 3-step process based on mutual respect helps the other see the patterns and impacts of their behavior, instead of alienating them with out-of-the-blue criticism

With subsidies having ran out, delivery apps like UberEats or Takeawaycom are so unreliable, thanks to shortage of couriers / incentive misalingment. When it rains: I no longer order (my order 50% of time cancelled an hour in) but either collect or cook. What’s old is new again.
