Kurt Vonnegut's 8 rules for writing: ⁣ 1. Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.⁣ ⁣ 2. Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for.⁣ ⁣ 3. Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.⁣ ⁣ 4. Every sentence must do one of two things—reveal character or advance the action.⁣ ⁣ 5. Start as close to the end as possible.⁣ ⁣ 6. Be a sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them-in order that the reader may see what they are made of.⁣ ⁣ 7. Write to please just one person. If you open a window and make love to the world, so to speak, your story will get pneumonia.⁣ ⁣ 8. Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible. To hell with suspense. Readers should have such complete understanding of what is going on, where and why, that they could finish the story themselves, should cockroaches eat the last few pages.⁣

@wiseconnector But the riddle says eggs are ".12 cents a dozen" Note the decimal. The eggs are less than 1 cent a dozen! In other words, not 12 cents per dozen, but 0.12 cents per dozen. 12 cents per dozen would be $0.12, *not* 0.12 cents. These eggs are one hundredth that cost.

@jen_keesmaat @BonnieCrombie What happens if I purchase an "affordable" home (less than market values) and later sell it? Can it be sold at the market rate? If so, is an "affordable" home merely a single-owner one-time solution (with that owner getting a better than market rate of return upon resale)?

Remarkable and comprehensive: @BonnieCrombie's Housing Plan is filled with good stuff. Many things jump out, but highlighting five: 1. Require home builders to include at least 20% long-term affordable units as a condition of sale of all provincial surplus lands for housing development, including GO Station parking lots. Anyone who knows me knows I have been ranting about our under-utilized land near transit which the government can unlock with the stroke of a pen - so this is a win/win. 2. Build complete communities by aligning intensification with the building of hospitals, schools, community centers, public transit, and arterial roads and highways and other community infrastructure. We must build communities, and I have been worried that we've disconnected housing delivery from quality, liveable placemaking. So this is great to see. 3. Implement ALL recommendations of the Ontario Housing Affordability Task Force within two years of winning the 2026 provincial election in consultation with municipalities and stakeholders. The Housing Affordability Task Force was set up by Premier Doug Ford and has been widely lauded as transformative. But the Conservatives have ignored it and have been meddling in the Greenbelt instead. This is gutsy - and demonstrates a true commitment to housing delivery over politics. 4. Build more homes in existing urban boundaries instead of building on prime farmland, Greenbelt, and ecologically and environmentally sensitive areas. Yes. 5. Protect renters from rent gouging through a phased-in rental control system. Need to see details, but this the right approach. bonnieforleader.ca/post/housing

Let’s take a moment and reflect on what has let to this abomination of an #OnlineNewsAct. Depending on your age, this may be ancient or contemporary history. In the olden days, people had newspapers delivered to them.

@CarymaRules If I remember correctly, "Rights" in Canada are basically absolute, Whereas "Freedoms" operate on a shifting ladder of balances & priorities such as "reasonable accommodation" etc. No?

@DPAWestonPhD @aldobar64 The research is clear: inclusive classrooms, generally, are better for students with disabilities. Students with severe & complex needs may require a separate class or program, but movement towards inclusion with educator training and support is the way forward.

I was in a hotel in Mexico during an earthquake. When I stumbled into the wall I thought I had lost my balance - only to soon realize it was the building that was struggling with balance! Across the street another hotel had a rooftop pool that was splashing over the side. twitter.com/fasc1nate/stat…

Hmmm. I just had a bizarre experience, involving a global news organisation and a trillion dollar corporation. (I got caught in the middle, so... owch.) It’s not the sort of experience the people involved usually talk about in public… so I think I’ll talk about it in public. 🧵

BREAKING: Ford govt is appealing the Ontario Superior Court decision to strike down Bill 124. Premier Ford commented, “I’m appealing the decision on behalf of the people of Ontario and they need to know that I’ll get them a win on this thing no matter what it costs”. @fordnation

@Carolneedlz @IRPlawyer You could choose another instance (server) and your prefered user name might be available there. Once you are established (following; getting followers) it wont matter what server you are on (generally speaking). But to find your people, choice of instance may make things easier.

@blogTO Low voter turnout isn't the problem. It's a symptom of the problem. Making voting mandatory does not eliminate the problem - it merely hides it.
