@mhp_guy You’re right. There are a lot of parallels. Kids will eventually find out Santa is fake. That could cause them to question everything you’ve told them. Also, Santa is a lie (even though a fun one). So, a bad example for the kids in that regard as well.

As a Christian it sets a bad precedent. If Santa is fake, is God fake? Is Jesus? **braces for hate from half of Twitter**

I regret lying to my kids about Santa. Christmas is already magical on its own, it doesn't need Santa's help. Their reactions when I told them...just brutal. More downside than upside.

@brianbeers Great insight. When thinking about moving, I think ‘I should keep this house, so I can start my real estate portfolio’ but maybe selling for cash is best. Then using that cash to double down on business.

@ryanraysr @theseoguy_ Automated direct mail is the middle ground. Takes about 3-4 weeks to start getting calls, but the leads will roll in!

My agency has a ~$250k invoice that’s 90 days overdue and unlikely to be paid bc the founder decided he “changed his mind” after we printed him a ton of cash What would you do in this situation?

I’ve been asked recently “can you run an SEO campaign for me that 100% follows Google’s guidelines?” Theoretically I could, but the client would be lighting money on fire. Google lies. Full stop. They tell you something doesn’t work and it works very well. They tell you something works and it doesn’t make a difference at all. I have absolutely zero moral qualms with giving some computer based algorithm what it wants. If I truly have my clients best interest in mind it’s imperative that I forget almost everything Google says and simply do what works. People pay me to help grow their business. My obligation is to them, not some trillion dollar software conglomerate.

Regardless of what you hear, digital marketing is still the Wild West. For most cities in the US you can buy an exact match or partial match domain, build 30 or so links to it, and rank in 6 months. In many markets you can rent a $200 a month coworking spot in the middle of a city, list a business address there, name the business “City Business Service”(“Fresno Pest Control” for example). Text 50 friends over the course of time and get 50 reviews. You’ll start getting phone calls. With Reddit ranking as high as it is, you can create a number of burners to promote your business and buy upvotes for 10 cents a pop. Not only will you get eye balls from other Reddit users, but you’ll also have a parasite SEO opportunity on your hands. The bar is seriously so low. Unless you’re something like a realtor in NYC, you can rank in Google. You can pop up in the map pack. You can get leads for your business. “The fishing is best where the fewest go, and the collective insecurity of the world makes it easy for people to hit home runs while everyone else is aiming for base hits. ” — Tim Ferris

@theseoguy_ So important to get as many 5-stars reviews as possible! For other business owners reading this: automated direct mail is a great way to collect reviews from potential or existing customers.

If I were starting a small business, I would do everything in my power to get 250 reviews on my Google Business Profile as fast as humanly possible. I would offer insane incentives for employees who get reviews. I would offer so much free stuff to people. Whatever it takes. Many of you know that I shout backlinks from the rooftops. They are fundamental to getting your website to ranking in the search results. You can’t live without them. What links are to search results are what reviews are to the map pack. If you want to show up at the top, you need to have more reviews than your competitors. I run a pest control company. Our techs knock doors and offer free sprays in exchange for reviews. If I ran a window cleaning company, I’d spend 15 minutes and clean the front couple windows of a house in exchange for a review. The bottom line is get creative. Do whatever it takes to get these reviews.

Everyone should have an automated direct mail campaign that increases their conversion rates by an average of 36%. Sadly, most companies don't even consider using direct mail. The companies that are have a huge competitive advantage.

As an entrepreneur of multiple businesses, I'm always intrigued by different marketing strategies. Direct mail may seem "outdated," but most big brands you know still choose to use this sector of marketing. [ 🧵]
