love y’all sounding off with ur highest locked in word count haha. tbc i said 10k bc that’s the current chapter word count average for my wip that updates ~weekly but that 100% doesn’t come close to extreme hyperfixation outputs. tldr speed/volume is not an ai indicator alone

i think (hope) it’s obvious i write AND edit my fics with my own human hands, but since update speed/word count is a new em-dash equivalent AI indicator apparently, i will just add that 10k+ words a week is reasonable when you’re powered by audhd like i am lmao & leave it at that

@heartmoore oh god if i were recording an entire chapter’s birth and not just an individual session, it would need to be played at like 200x speed just to make the file small enough to upload haha

@minrozanov It would need to be 48 to 64 hours long to include the first draft, the second draft, the third draft, the fourth draft, the first edit, the second edit and then the final edit.

@bigcort2024 i feel like i’m paranoid eye twitching any time i write an author’s note now but it really does feel necessary to caveat everything 😩 especially with the new tendency to screenshot works and openly criticize them. def does not feel the same publishing fic as it did in the 2010s

Real talk — the fact we’re now having to ‘prove’ we’re human writers because speed = AI red flag is wild. AI slop flooded the fandom so hard that genuine creators are forced to disclaimer their own process. Long-term this might kill the fun of fast updates or push people to slower, more authentic pacing.

@uvar0vite ah thank you! (and i’m a data scientist and researcher professionally so… i also have a specific fondness for documentation and references haha). but yeah i find people’s AI use puzzling since the research/writing is the joy for me! comments/hits whatever are just a lovely bonus

@minrozanov your endnotes ALONE are proof enough that you aren't using ai. this is coming from someone in stem who's got a fondness for endnotes and in-text citations.

@moonchaospoet absolutely so context dependent, for sure. teenage me writing hundreds of thousands of words of terrible but very enthusiastic fic on ff dot net would scoff at my writing output as a corporate 30 year old lol

@minrozanov And isn't it just wildly different depending on circumstances? I have kids, I do not have the time, or the energy to dedicate that much into writing any given day. Give me a day off and I could also pull it of. Both is fine. It escalates into AI-paranoia at this point.

@hollernov haha yeah that day long flow state is usually how i end up writing fic too (and also how i wrote most chapters of my dissertation lol 🙃 an approach which i would not advise for academic work, but hey, unmedicated adhd + pressure of deadlines does miraculous things sometimes)
