@BovrilG Your error is assuming that the people making the legislation to ban think it has anything to do with it's stated purpose as opposed to keeping the furniture warm. This is the country which legislated to move desserts 2 feet to the left to combat child obesity, after all.

I’d honestly be prepared to contemplate a ban on social media for under sixteens (if it could be done without compromising anonymity) as part of a grand bargain aimed at restoring the social conditions of the 90s (including vastly greater personal freedom for teens). Britain is currently a country contemplating a ban on non alcoholic beers for under 18s in case they lead to a Rake’s Progress-like descent into alcoholic beers. This is not the sort of place where freedoms of any sort will be restorable for quite some time.

@RebecTV Moffat's problems (writing of women aside) were largely treating The Doctor as the lynchpin of the universe but being unable to make a satisfying conclusion to those kinds of stories. But at least he never wrote a series where half the episodes were solved by clips of Tom Baker

Yeah, I think everyone knows I don't like the Moffat era as much as a lot of people but looking back he didn't do anything remotely as baffling as recent years
🔆Luna🔆@RobotHimejoshi

@RebecTV Say what you will about Moffat but his most drastic change (the DOTD time war stuff) respected the past and kept it intact while creating new opportunities for future stories

@RebecTV It's way more cynical. It's because the marketing and focus groups people raised a concern about people sticking around for Ncuti if he got a traditional 2 minute scene only so they had to contrive a way to give him a 15 minute scene.

@darkwillowz My pet theory is they were originally written and shot to be 60 minutes, then they found out it was 45 and had to cut them down. It's why the pacing and structure is never quite right and you end up with a collection of tiktok-brained snap scenes rather than a proper story.

@minimoefoe @Markstirton Well no, because the justification wasn't "let's see young Davros, canon be damned", it was "Davros is evil so can't be a wheelchair user". Nabil Shaban spent a lot of his life campaigning against such fluffy tokenism for disabled people.

Something is clearly out of balance when someone earning £10k and someone earning £140k take home the same net amount. No wonder so many hard-working people and entrepreneurs are leaving the UK. Would you want to live in a country that punishes hard work and jobs creation?

@dylanmtaylor92 @dchackethal @0xglitchbyte I want to be clear that I completely understand this reasoning and my next comment is not coming from a place of misunderstanding. It's fucking stupid to "soft comply" with the law because you think it'll stop there. You're building the infra for far worse things for them.

@AnsonyManji @hackerfantastic It's unenforceable until that date field is replaced by a token which is actually derived from an id; or worse regulators figure you have to actually have to keep unique face scans on your machine. This is just the start, not the end.

👎Australia's social media ban has failed 70% of children are still on social media sites and many others are being pushed into less regulated corners of the internet The UK must learn from Australia's failings and drop plans to enforce a social media ban for under-16s It will come at the cost to all of our rights, freedom and internet access.
Senator Sarah Henderson@SenSHenderson

One hundred days on, it’s clear Labor’s under-16s social media ban has not delivered as promised.  Families were assured this would be a practical and enforceable safeguard, yet what we’ve seen is confusion for parents, uncertainty for platforms and real questions about how this works in practice. The Coalition has consistently supported stronger protections for young Australians online. But good policy is not just about announcing a plan, it’s about making sure it can actually be delivered. The government must now be upfront about what’s working and what isn’t.  Parents deserve clarity and transparency, not confusion and obfuscation.  This includes coming clean on how many accounts have been shut down.  In January, the Prime Minister and Communications Minister announced that 4.7 million accounts were deactivated, removed, or restricted within days of the ban coming into force.  This claim, inconsistent with some publicly released data, is now under a cloud after the eSafety Commissioner confirmed an investigation was underway to verify the number of impacted accounts.  ➡️ afr.com/technology/fin…

@AIandDesign @nvidia Well, no. That's a self defeating argument. You can't counter "it destroys unique style by forcing it into the AI model's style" with "what if developers gave up unique style on their own?"

I'm seeing a lot of backlash against @nvidia DLSS 5 from gamers. I _think_ I get why: because it changes the look of the game from what the creators of the game had intended to whatever the "enhancement" thinks is "better". However, and hear me out here: If the game developer builds stuff with DLSS 5 IN MIND, wouldn't that just turn it into an awesome enhancement? Something to think about.

@Tales_TimeLord I have heard many complaints and criticism towards TTC. None of them have been that it's out of character for the Time Lords to be conniving. Concern is much more about how it affects The Doctor's character, their role in the universe, and whether it was just a cheap twist.

@CarrotsMany @Q_Review For new Who (2005+) the canonical jumping on points are Rose (S01E01), and The Eleventh Hour (S05E01). Not that it's impossible to jump on more recently. For old Who (1963-1989) don't just binge by watching all episodes in order. Watch a few select stories per Doctor.

@Q_Review Since there's probably a bunch of Doctor Who fans in this comment section: What's a good season to start watching it? I've always been interested in that show, but since it has like 40 seasons with a quadrillion episodes it's quite hard to figure out where to start.
