I’ve been living immersed in South Korea for the last month with my wife and daughter. We just leave the stroller outside if we go in anywhere. Because no one’s going to steal it. I met a friend for lunch. He rode his bicycle. He just left it outside in an alley without a lock. It was still there 2 hours later. Another friend mistakenly left his phone on a park bench. When he finally retraced his steps and went back 4 hours later, his iPhone was still there. I walked by a KPop concert. The fans who traveled from outside of Seoul to attend just left their luggage outside the subway station. No locks. No security. Koreans take this for granted. They don’t realize this is not normal for most the world, especially America. When I ask about it, they just respond, “of course, why would someone take it?” Can you imagine any of these things happening or being possible in NYC or LA or *insert city*? And IF, something were to be stolen in Korea, the police would investigate. Because in a high trust society, rules and norms matter. There’s no “under $1000” law. Theft is theft. And trust is trust. Will this social norm ever be possible in America?

Very long post here on Kevin Gausman, who faces the Cubs at Wrigley field. Let's revisit the Gausman/Stroman story. In the 2021-2022 "lockout" offseason, Gausman was one of the headline pitching free agent targets. He signed for 5 years, $110M ($22M AAV) with Toronto. Now in his final season of that contract, he has accumulated 20.1 WAR, which is over an 70-80M surplus of value over what Toronto paid him to produce! Gausman is one of the most valuable free agent signings. The Cubs passing on Gausman in favor of Stroman was as significant mistake. They guaranteed Stroman 3 years, $71M ($23.7M AAV). Shorter commitment for Stroman over Gausman's 5 years at a comparable AAV. The concern for Gausman back then was he was "one of one" with heavy splitter usage. So it was difficult to "model" his age curve. Yet had the Cubs signed Gausman and not Stroman, the ripple effect across the organization would have been felt. Signing Stroman over Gausman, in my opinion, is one of the biggest misfires in Jed Hoyer's tenure.

I would have Pele one (3 WC titles in 4 campaigns, including the last back to back in 1958, 1962) Maradona two (86 won, 90 lost in Final) Messi three (2022 Won, 2026 ?) I would put Messi at one if he wins it again this year, and that’s something that hasn’t been done in 64 years and that’s go back to back.

Okay we just pulled two people out of that rubble. Broken leg and some scuffs, but they’re alive by the grace of god and on the way to the hospital. Found the dogs in the cornfields and they’re perfectly fine

Ohio's data centers do more than power the internet — they fund our future. Since 2017, they've contributed more than $5.2 billion in state and local taxes, supporting schools, roads, and communities across the state.

IQ, giftedness, and the heritability thereof is maybe the best example of a divide between *rhetorical* empiricists/technocrats and *actual* experts. The lib pundits are still in thrall to The Bell Curve; actual geneticists & neurologists have utterly shredded it

This is Trump’s Watergate. Today, the @nytimes released a truly stunning report on the Epstein cover-up by the White House.  Collusion, breaking the law, evading subpoenas—it’s all in there: - Trump quashing the files - The VP, COS, DOJ, FBI, and others colluding in the Situation Room to stop their release and compliance - Officials lying to the public  - Admin in-fighting and exits - Officials who appeared in front of Congress during this time Read the report here: nytimes.com/2026/06/10/mag…
