@KyleDGamedev Remember it works both ways. You can create great games without being a good programmer, just by learning what is essential to fullfill your needs. Then, you can create great games without being a flexible artist, just find your personal way, which can be a simple way too.

Other solo devs, how do you guys do it for art? Art is crazy expensive and I have the artist skills of a moldy pineapple. Are you guys genuinely just all so talented at both dev AND art or you outsourcing art like me?

@andreintg Making games is a different matter, sure, in a way that you can make very fun games without even programming. I'm just talking about learning programming, and sometimes you don't have the luck to choose which problem to solve - you have to make the game run on a low spec at 60hz.

@peevishdave Ok, but you're assuming that because you change language you stop solving problems. If we're talking about making games, the problem is making a fun game, not solving programming puzzles. I never sat foot in a university, we come from different struggles 😅

I started programming thanks to scripting languages. It was a smooth ladder that led me to c and c++ over time. I wonder how many game and tool devs are learning to code thanks to vibecoding. I'd love to hear some stories : )

@andreintg I do too think it's important to adapt, especially because I think there’s no turning back now. Anyway, I personally support anyone who decide to oppose, to at least to end up with a decent balance in the industry eventually.

@peevishdave I know your tone is lighthearted : ) I think the direction is pretty obvious though. Jobs change, always did. The stuff I used to be payed for in big studios can now be done by anyone at home in a fraction of the time. I could pushback , but I decided to learn new tricks instead.

Colleagues tell me I’ve joined "the dark side"😩 Let’s be clear: I enjoy writing my game code and sculpting my models, I don't think you HAVE to use AI. But if you say stuff like "it's useless, I'll never use it", you kinda remind me of these fellas.

@phre Per quanto oggi possa essere considerata una scelta controversa, l'adattamento e doppiaggio dei cavalieri lo ha migliorato di 10 volte.

@peevishdave Haha vero, vero. Questo, insieme ai cavalieri, è stato quello che mi ha fatto innamorare degli anime da bambino.

To fully understand why anime culture is so big in Italy, you have to know that back in the day we didn't use the original OPs. We had our own Italian versions and they are absolute BANGERS. 🔥 So, starting today, I'm gonna post some of my personal favorites. 🧵

@phre this was peak, except for the "like a little angel up in heaven you will fly if you fall in love." clearly put because the rest was too dark for children 😂

The most bizarre shit I heard from so-called programmers about AI is "finally I can create my own game!" Bro, you are a programmer. Games are programs. Are you okay?

@sandpenguin It depends on whether you're looking for art or entertainment. Some players seek a sense of awe, and that can only be achieved through truly unique games. Of course the game must deliver, not being just randomly different. Creativity is the search for good within chaos.

Unpopular opinion: originality in games has no value by itself. A fun game beats an original game every time. Players don't care that your mechanic is unique. They care if it's enjoyable.

@peevishdave Got it. Fun story, a CEO once told me he was not going to hire engineers for his game because he heard about blueprints. The problem is not tech, is the idiots.

AI is not comparable to a junior developer. A junior developer can become a senior developer.

@peevishdave an AI can explain to a junior how to achieve what they want to do though. I recently vibe coded an agent and I sucked so bad at the basic concepts that the AI had to first explain to me how the freaking thing worked first 😆
