I am happy to announce that today I received copies of my book: Lebanon and Turkey: Historical Contexts and Contemporary Realities. No empire or a regional power has helped mold the socio-political and religious landscape of a country as the Ottoman Empire and its heir (the Republic of Turkey) have helped shape modern Lebanon, yet no contemporary study has examined Lebanon-Turkey relations back to Ottoman rule of Lebanon. As such, the understanding of this historic and contemporaneous relationship is deficient. This text fills this gap, examining patterns and shifts in Lebanon-Turkey relations within the context of regional and international politics from Ottoman rule to Turkey’s AKP-led governments. This comprehensive account of Lebanon-Turkey relations—grounded in layers of cultural, political, demographic, economic, and sectarian complexities and changes across centuries—analyzes the developments and dynamics that have helped shape modern Lebanon and its confessional system and politics. It underscores the misconceptions and lessons learned from this long-term relationship, locating Lebanon-Turkey relations along a historical continuum. The topics with which this book project is concerned with: -Ties Ottoman rule over Lebanon with contemporaneous Lebanon-Turkey relations -Examines the shifts and development of Lebanon’s demography and sects under Ottoman rule -Investigates Ottoman rule over Lebanon against the background of European rivalry -Analyzes the transition of feudalism based in tax farming under Ottoman rule to political sectarianism in independent Lebanon -Probes Lebanon’s sectarian massacres in the nineteenth century, which led to foreign intervention and the development of the country’s confessional system -Examines Lebanon’s Great Famine (1915–1918) within the context of the Great War -Analyzes Turkey’s foreign policy approach towards Lebanon within the context of Ankara’s ideological and practical outlooks -Scrutinizes Turkey’s Justice and Development party’s (AKP) interest in Lebanon -Explores Turkey’s influence in Lebanon Reviews of the Book: This is a refreshing, lucid, and seasoned research-based analysis that is crucial to understanding a contemporary Eastern Mediterranean in the midst of roiling shifts, what some have called ‘the end of the Arab century.’ A discerning survey probing deeply post-Ottoman Lebanese-Turkish relations, this book is of special importance on many levels to scholars of the Middle East but also genocide studies and the still ‘hidden’ history of the Great Famine on Mount-Lebanon. An edifying book and deeply researched, it is written and presented with clarity and deliberation yielding illumination. — Franck Salameh, Boston College Well researched, chronicled, and argued, Dr. Rabil’s book stands out as a unique study, in so far as, to my knowledge, no other work has meticulously examined and scrutinized Lebanon’s relationship with Turkey since Ottoman rule. The book successfully weaves together the major developments, including the overlooked Great Famine, of this relationship that helped shape modern Lebanon and continues to highlight both the chronic failures of the country’s confessional system and the promise of better Lebanon-Turkey relations, against the backdrop of a fast-paced changing world order. — Joseph Alagha, Haigazian University Robert Rabil makes clear the complicated, conflicted, and tragic history of Lebanon and its relationship with its neighbors. This compelling, insightful, and courageous book helps us understand Lebanon’s tangled and contentious history with its neighbors, Turkey and Syria. Lebanon is a microcosm of the Middle East, and Robert Rabil masterfully shows how its current crisis is rooted in history. — Robert J. Allison, Suffolk University, author of The Crescent Obscured: The United States and the Muslim World 1776-1820 Professor Rabil masterfully traces Turkish Middle Eastern policy from Sultan Abdul Hamid’s Ottomanism to Davutoglu’s Neo-Ottomanism and Erdogan’s realism after the defeat of Arab popular uprisings that demonstrated the limits of Ankara’s regional ambitions. Rabil’s exceptional book educates students about the influence of Turkey in shaping Lebanon’s sectarian alignments and guides researchers to its importance in understanding the significance of transnational ideas in exacerbating Arab countries’ instability. Lebanon: From Ottoman Rule to Erdogan Regime is an essential read for those who wish to understand Turkey’s history and present to predict its future. — Hilal Khashan, American University of Beirut Professor Rabil does an excellent job explaining how the Ottoman Empire struggled to survive by applying a policy of mass killings, starvation, and deportations in the empire’s provinces that sought to become more autonomous. It is interesting how an empire resorts to cruel methods to keep itself from falling apart. Rabil’s study is also relevant to understanding contemporary Russia’s involvement in Ukraine. The case of the Ottoman Empire can serve as a historical paradigm to analyze powers that struggle against their own decline. A brilliant and highly enlightening book. — Luis Fleischman, professor, Palm Beach State College and co-president, Palm Beach Center for Democracy and Policy Research Robert Rabil ‘s Lebanon-Turkey Relations: From Ottoman Rule to Erdogan’s Regime,” is a gift for those studying the history, politics, and culture of Lebanon and its important neighbor, Turkey. In recent years Turkey’s foreign policy has become an often and serious topic of analysis for Middle Eastern scholars. This book provides an important addition to that literature. It is a unique study concentrating on Turkey’s impact on the development of Lebanon from its early history to its current involvement in the country. Through archival research, and interviews abroad Dr. Rabil provides new insights into Ottoman policies leading to the Great Famine of 1915-1918, the roots of the confessional system, the growth of Arab Nationalism, the Cold War, Lebanon’s civil war and Turkey’s recent and growing involvement in Lebanon and the region. This is a key contribution to filling the missing piece of the Lebanese – Turkish relationship’s place in today’s Middle East foreign policy puzzle. It really is a must read! — Lenore G. Martin, Professor, Emmanuel College, Middle East Center and Weatherhead Center, Harvard University Books can be purchased from Amazon, Barnes and Nobles and others, or from publisher with 25% discount, Ebook: $25.00 and paperback: $27.00.

With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. I warmly welcome the sagacious gesture and extend deepest gratitude to the leadership of both the countries and invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, 10th April 2026, to further negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes. Both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding and have remained constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability. We earnestly hope, that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in coming days! @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @SecRubio @SteveWitkoff @SEPeaceMissions @drpezeshkian @mb_ghalibaf @araghchi

President Trump agrees to 2 weeks cease fire subject to Iran’s opening Strait of Hormuz! Yet, gap between USA position and that of Iran remains wide, and danger of escalation is real. Pakistan played a key role in persuading ⁦@POTUS⁩ but Iran & Israel stance yet not clear!

Diplomatic efforts for peaceful settlement of the ongoing war in the Middle East are progressing steadily, strongly and powerfully with the potential to lead to substantive results in near future. To allow diplomacy to run its course, I earnestly request President Trump to extend the deadline for two weeks. Pakistan, in all sincerity, requests the Iranian brothers to open Strait of Hormuz for a corresponding period of two weeks as a goodwill gesture. We also urge all warring parties to observe a ceasefire everywhere for two weeks to allow diplomacy to achieve conclusive termination of war, in the interest of long-term peace and stability in the region. @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @SecRubio @SteveWitkoff @SEPeaceMissions @drpezeshkian @mb_ghalibaf @araghchi

The UAE deeply regrets that the UN Security Council failed today to endorse a clear framework for international cooperation in ending Iran’s illegal attacks and threats to the global economy by adopting a draft resolution demanding the immediate cessation of all attacks on vessels and attempts to impede freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz must remain open to all, and the freedom of navigation must be preserved. No country should have the power to shut down the arteries of global commerce and drive the world to the brink of economic calamity. The Security Council's failure to act does not diminish the urgency of this crisis or the UAE’s resolve. We thank Bahrain for its leadership on the Security Council and for its diplomatic efforts. We will continue to push for international efforts to restore the Strait of Hormuz and work with partners to advance coordinated action to secure navigation and restore the flow of global commerce.

A clip of my interview with Asas Media: Thousands of #Hashd Sha’bi from #Iraq and other pro-Iranian units have entered #Iran to support the regime, while #IRGC reinforced its presence in coastal cities. An agreement between #Washington and #Tehran is hardly possible given the wide gap between the positions and escalation is expected! Full interview will be released in a few hours.

Solo Interview with Iraq/Jordan #AlTaghier TV was civil and constructive. Many apt questions were asked for 40 minutes. My main responses included: Should the #Iranian regime take the #American pilot as a prisoner and use his captivity as a pressure card against the President in the hope he will change his policy, they are mistaken. He will not stop military track and will not stop the war. Instead he will put more military pressure on Iran to release him. Military track will continue in parallel with diplomatic track; and military attacks on strategic targets will not stop until an agreement is reached or @POTUS declares end of war and victory! It’s hardly possible for the Iranian regime to fully give up its nuclear program [and by extension ballistic missile program] because it linked it to its Islamist-nationalist identity, integral to its raison d’etre! Unless, possibly and hopefully soon, they see that their survival is at risk! My interview with Al-Taghier garnered 215 K views on Youtube and over 500 comments, many of which were anti-American, anti-Israel, yet some either supportive of USA or anti-Iran. Significantly, My al-Jazeera interview few days ago was posted garnering 152 K views on Youtube and over 1000 comments. Besides accusing me of everything underneath the sun, and besides receiving murder threats, all comments were anti-American, anti-Israel and many vulgar! The tragedy here is that none empathized with the #Arab Gulf, which fed many of them, rather standing in solidarity with #Iran the aggressor! What a shame! youtube.com/live/S0IDGgFpx…

Although I often say that nothing shocks me anymore these days, yet I see myself again wrong and shocked! Surprisingly, this shock took place in my debate with a guest on #I24 News TV who echoed the most outrageous things said in the #Arab, Muslim and some parts of Europe: The war against #Iran is an “Old Testament War,” Israel’s bestiality, and bestial aggression, International law is absent thanks to #USA that turned the world into a jungle, failed military operation, USA murdered 38 million people since WWII in Middle East, USA is ready to commit all kinds of crimes in the world, ISIS today is openly allied with USA! He also cited the Intercept which stated that the Pentagon is concealing from the American public the number of American killed and wounded numbering in the 100s. Again, never stopped to being amazed by the ingenuity of the neo-Left to malign and undermine @POTUS and #America! Needless to say, I threw the book at him, and challenged his rubbish! youtu.be/_Q3SMTrvR8Y?si…

Lebanon is all talk and no action. They declared Iran’s ambassador unwelcome - yet he stays. They ordered Hezbollah to disarm - yet it remains in power under Iran’s control. Meanwhile, attacks on Israel’s north continue. Time for Lebanon to get its act together.

My interview with #UAE #SkyNews on #Iranian crisis and the reported Iranian leaders #Trump Administration is negotiating with. I believe #usa is talking with some of the following leaders: Mohsen Radai, advisor to supreme leader; Muhammad Qaliqaf, former #IRGC commander and head of parliament; Ahmad Wahidi, commander of IRGC; and Abbas Araghchi. Wahidi, not mentioned much, but is of interest! As a young officer he was part of the Iran Contra Affairs and it's possible our intelligence is speaking to him! youtu.be/d8Ya3xQ0Kr0?si…

My solo interview with #UAE #SkyNews TV in which I responded to the anchor's many questions. Main responses: @POTUS has a strategy of ambiguity that offers options for the president yet having specific objectives, save baffling the Iranians; Objectives of US mission largely achieved [nearly destroying nuclear and ballistic missiles programs and severing Iran's support of its proxies]; As I often said, the next couple of weeks will see an escalation of targets to destroy #Iran's factories of dual use; The built up of #American forces is the parallel track of the diplomatic one that should it fail the possibility of opening Strait of Hermoz becomes plausible; President will declare victory in few weeks, since objectives of mission largely achieved, and declare victory! youtu.be/qk1f3uANbGg?si…

My interview with #UAE TV ALMashhad in which I debated a progressive member of the democratic party. Of course I respected him and his views; but I disagreed with him. He underscored @POTUS is a failure, weakened American institutions, and upended international order by attacking Iran, among other points. My position has been consistent: War was not by choice! Iran has been waging a war against #USA and #Israel since 1979; Trump is ending the Iranian regime's reign of terror in the Middle East: -Iran held American hostages for 444 days; -Iran was behind the Marine barracks bombing 241 marines killed, 1983; -Iran was behind the bombing of US Embassy in #Beirut twice, 1983 and 1984. Many killed including CIA officers; -Iran was behind the kidnapping of many Western hostages, including the torture for 15 months and murder of #CIA chief station William F. Buckley in 1985; -Iran was behind the murder of American scholar and President of American University of Beirut DR. Malcolm Kerr! A clear attack on American cultural heritage and legacy in Beirut since 1866; -Iran was behind the attack of #Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia in 1996 in which 19 American servicemen were killed and dozens wounded; -Iran was behind creating the biggest terror network including #Hezbollah, #Hamas, #Islamic Jihad, #Houthis, Hashd al-Sha'bi; and supporting the Asad regime! -Iran was behind creating the "ring of fire" and "unity of theater" of operations to obliterate #Israel (per Hezbollah's term) and oust USA from Middle East; -And #Iran was behind introducing IED in both Iraq and Afghanistan, save supporting militant Islamists, to kill Americans there! So save me the rubbish of legality of war and upending the international order! And should USA/Israel not confront Iran today, what would have happened three years from today! Think tons of precise ballistic missiles probably with nuclear warheads! What really shocks [should not] me is that most American, European and Arab media share the same views emphasizing failures, flaws, faults, inadequacies (among other epithets) of President Trump and his administration while saying virtually nothing about Iran as if standing in solidarity with Tehran!! youtu.be/A3RraZW8Uzg?si…
