#JimCrow in my daily life as a child: I can recall every door had a sign. Parks, theaters, restaurants, water fountains, restrooms, and even cemeteries were all segregated. Black Americans couldn’t move through public space as full human beings — we were 2nd class citizens.

#JimCrow was one of the most devastating systems ever imposed on American citizens in history. Think of society as a building with many floors. Jim Crow didn’t just block Black Americans from one room — it locked them out of nearly the entire structure, then rigged the elevator.

In April 2021, 61 year old Margaret Johnson Street was walking down the street when she was brutally punched in the face by a total stranger, Jeremiah Mark, while visiting the French Quarter in New Orleans. Authorities believe Margaret was sightseeing when Jeremiah Mark approached her and demanded her purse. Margaret asked to be left alone but Jeremiah Mark wouldn't stop, when Margaret threatened to call the cops, Mark hit her so hard in the face, she fell backward hit the sidewalk & cracked her skull. Margaret passed away 2 days later leaving behind her daughter and two grandchildren. Arrested April 2021 → Plea deal ~ 2 years and a week in a parish jail. Mark got out of prison in 2023, after a two year buddy party bro-down. A feral thug takes a grandmother's life and gets 2 years in jail, something's terribly wrong in our country. Margaret's gone, Mark's not, that's the problem.
