New preprint showing a #SARSCoV2 nucleocapsid variant that impacts antigen test performance. One sample just didn't want to play ball with the Quidel SARS Antigen FIA, of #pac12 and #big10 fame. So we sequenced it... medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

Defective freeloader viral genomes discovered by @uwvirology researchers in infections by DNA viruses in humans, suggesting defective viral genomes may play a role in far greater range of viral infections than previously recognized. Read it here: newsroom.uw.edu/news/defective…

Last week, I wrote another story about #COVID19 testing! A short summary: In late August, the @nytimes published a story: "Your Coronavirus Test Is Positive. Maybe It Shouldn’t Be." The claim? The standard coronavirus test (PCR) is too sensitive. 1/5 bit.ly/34X8IXx

The pandemic put laboratory testing on the front page ... for COVID-19 tests. But (it turns out) the infrastructure for test supplies is fragile. Look at these numbers of shortages for SARS-CoV2 AND for non-COVID tests. It's widespread & ongoing. asm.org/Articles/2020/…

Welcome to Greninger Lab. Our lab focuses on the genomics of infectious diseases and metagenomics. Specifically, we are expanding reference genomic databases through first genomes of bugs and viral discovery to study the crazy evolutionary pressures we put on viruses.
