I don't get it. Love Europe, but there's almost a kind of stubbornness about a/c that just doesn't make sense (and never did).
And it's not limited to Europe. New England, for years, was full of no-a/c stores and restaurants. "Oh, we don't need it here."

Joy at the suffering of others is one of the chief internal conditions leading to evil actions. Obviously Europe needs more air conditioning. As someone who has lived in three European capitals, including during heat waves, I get it and have made this point many times myself for years. European official reluctance and hideboundness on this issue has led to so many deaths, concentrated among the elderly. It is terrible. Governments and elites ought to be held to account. And I hope they will be soon. At the same time, the "poasting" of so many dime-store cultural warriors on this website, usually my fellow Americans, savoring the situation, joking about it, and often quite literally celebrating their suffering is execrable.
