sri made me fall in love with the game and HSP gave that love a heartbeat. a part of me will go with them when they do, but watching them give me hope was everything, celebrating their wins as mine was everything, crying for them and because of them, was everything

Every European drying rack is the answer to a math problem Americans never have to solve. Spain residential power runs €0.29/kWh. Germany €0.38. Texas runs $0.13. A conventional dryer eats roughly 4 kWh per cycle, so a single load costs €1.16 in Madrid vs $0.52 in Houston. Five loads a week, 52 weeks, you're at €300/year in Spain vs $135 in Texas just to spin a heated drum. Stack the appliance economics. EU energy efficiency rules pushed cheap vented dryers off shelves years ago. The replacement is the heat pump dryer, which uses 50-60% less energy but retails €800-1500 vs $400 for a US vented unit. Worse upfront cost, worse running cost. Then the apartment constraint. Most European flats don't have venting infrastructure and don't have a dedicated laundry room. The washer sits in the bathroom or kitchen. There's no space for a second machine even if the running cost made sense. The drying rack costs €30. Lasts a decade. Uses zero electricity. What you're looking at is a household that ran the numbers and refused to spend €2,000+ over ten years to dry clothes 6 hours faster than physics does for free. The Texan at $0.13/kWh in a 200 sqm house was always buying the dryer. The Spaniard at €0.29/kWh in an 80 sqm flat was always buying the rack.

Champions don’t train to fit in; they train to stand out. And there’s absolutely no doubt Viktor Axelsen stood out. Not just by his results, but also both physically and professionally he was head and shoulders above the rest. Physically he’s a giant of a man at 1.94m (6’ 4”) but he also raised the bar and redefined what professionalism means in the sport of #badminton. Never had anyone explored every avenue so thoroughly in their pursuit of personal excellence. Every tiny detail was considered with no stone left unturned in his endless desire to be the best he could possibly be. Like most athletes, success didn’t come easily. But after winning his first Superseries (SS) title while contesting his 7th SS final, the floodgates opened as confidence grew and belief blossomed. He played another 38 SS or #WorldTour finals winning a staggering 31 of them. But it was perhaps his ability to turn setbacks into opportunities and find solutions to problems which also made him stand out. A trait exemplified during the global pandemic. He used the enforced lockdown to his advantage, working on his physical conditioning. When tournaments resumed many players struggled, but Viktor emerged leaner, fitter, faster and even more hungry for success. For the next 4 years he dominated the discipline. With the realisation and acceptance his back injury has forced his career to come to an end, his retirement post epitomised his thoughtful professionalism. Apart from the acknowledgements of support, it was reflective, honest and moving. I suspect there are very few athletes who can retire content in the knowledge they honestly did everything possible to achieve their goals, that they could not have done more. That they really did fulfil their potential. It appears Axelsen is at peace, because he did precisely that. He’s said he felt grateful and privileged for his career, that he “gave everything and got more back than he could ever have imagined”. Viktor Axelsen wasn’t content to fit in. He wanted to stand out. He had the courage to do things differently, to do what he believed in. And the result, one of the greatest champions the sport has ever seen. 📷@badmintonphoto

Asked someone from the industry whether foreign investors are still interested in allocating to India. The TLDR: Interest has pretty much died out. India is seen as geopolitically exposed, especially to an oil shock. There are no real AI plays. Valuations are rich. And the rupee situation doesn't help. On top of that, investors who were sitting on gains have taken money off the table and are now looking at markets like Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Europe etc instead. He also pointed out that our LTCG/STCG structure and the increase in STT have made India less attractive compared to other markets that are seeing inflows. If we need to attract FPIs back, and we do, fixing this feels like pretty low-hanging fruit.

Language can screw you -Air Canada’s CEO is stepping down after his response to a deadly runway collision in New York caused a PR disaster. Quebec’s provincial legislature voted unanimously to call for his resignation. Which faux pax did he commit? His response to the deadly crash was delivered almost entirely in English. The incident caused a major uproar in Quebec, where one of the pilots was from, where Air Canada is headquartered and where the use of French is an ongoing political issue - Bloomberg
