The Catholic Church, despite being led by imperfect men, has been right about every theological and social subject for 2,000 years After a lifetime of trying to keep up with an ever-changing world, I can’t put into words how much better my life has gotten since realizing this fact and fully surrendering to it Turns out “all those rules” are there for our own benefit

@RickWMiller1 @Old_SchoolEddie @theresamwebster Jesus is god dude… we are his children. Jesus was talking about eunuchs. If you castrated priests then it might hold a bit more weight The Catholics prevent priests from marrying after being ordained. So it’s against scripture. Also paul doesn’t use the word if.

That objection still misses how 1 Timothy 3 is written. Paul isn’t saying an elder must be married, he’s saying that if he is married, his family life must be in order as proof of his character. That’s why he uses conditional logic: if he has a household, it must be well managed. Otherwise you’d have to say Paul disqualifies himself (he was unmarried: 1 Corinthians 7:7) and even Jesus Christ wouldn’t meet the standard, which makes no sense. Scripture actually affirms celibacy for ministry (Matthew 19:12; 1 Corinthians 7:32–35), so the passage isn’t requiring marriage, it’s requiring integrity, whether a man is married or not.

@RickWMiller1 @Old_SchoolEddie @theresamwebster so when Paul was listing all the virtues of an elder he was just saying the family part because hey some may be married? Even at the end of the passage he said “If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?” Yeah fails on scripture 🙄

That argument fails on both Scripture and actual Catholic practice: 1 Timothy 3 does not require elders to be married, it gives qualifications for those who are (“husband of one wife” excludes polygamy and immorality, it doesn’t mandate marriage), just as mentioning children doesn’t disqualify childless men; in fact, Paul the Apostle was unmarried and explicitly commends celibacy for undivided service (1 Corinthians 7:7, 32–35), and Jesus teaches that some freely renounce marriage “for the sake of the kingdom” (Matthew 19:12). On top of that, “priests can’t marry” is simply false, celibacy in the Latin Church is a discipline, not a doctrine. The Catholic Church has always allowed married priests in the Eastern Catholic Churches, and even in the Latin Church married men can be ordained (for example, former Protestant ministers). The rule is only that a man chooses his state before ordination, married men may be ordained, and celibate men may remain celibate for ministry, but after ordination, new marriage is not taken up. So both Scripture and Church practice show the same thing: marriage is fully valid for clergy, while celibacy is a chosen calling for greater dedication, not a contradiction of the Bible.

@SoManyTrix @realKarras He left us with the Holy Spirit and disciples who would write down his teaching. The church is believers not a building or a guy in a funny hat. It’s not an institution or a building. Whenever believers come together in a group with the Holy Spirit present that is the church.

@techingouttech @realKarras That’s not the teaching. And we are loyal to God and his church (the body). Jesus left us a church. He didn’t throw us a highlighter and a book and tell us good luck. Not to say the Bible doesn’t matter, but check your statements.

This should go without saying, but every American Catholic needs to get it into their head that their loyalty is to the Catholic Church over Donald Trump. There can be no ambiguity on this.

That is simply false. Scripture repeatedly shows that Christ acts through ordained ministers, not apart from them. Start with the clearest text: John 20:21–23. Jesus says, “As the Father has sent me, even so I send you… Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them.” That is not a generic preaching command, it is a judicial authority over sin. The apostles don’t replace Christ; they are sent the same way He was sent, meaning they act in His name and with His authority. Then look at 2 Corinthians 5:18–20: “God… gave us the ministry of reconciliation… we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us.” An ambassador doesn’t speak about the king, he speaks for the king. Paul explicitly says God acts through them. Jesus reinforces this representation directly in Luke 10:16: “He who hears you hears me.” That’s not symbolic language, it’s identification. To receive the minister is to receive Christ Himself. Add Matthew 16:19 and 18:18: the apostles are given binding and loosing authority, a recognized Jewish legal power that includes forgiveness and retention of sins. That authority doesn’t compete with God, it is delegated by Him. Finally, James 5:14–16 ties it all together: call the elders (presbyters/priests), they pray, sins are forgiven, and confession happens in that context. That is a structured, ministerial act, not isolated private prayer. Bottom line: Scripture never says “priests represent Christ” in one tidy sentence, but it repeatedly shows the reality: Christ sends them as He was sent, speaks through them, and gives them real authority over sin. That is representation, whether someone likes the term or not.
