Strikes me as a key research direction for people interested in HCI: What should the human-agent relationship look like in order to actually maintain reliable oversight? “ "Human in the loop" is necessary, but the current process itself makes the loop stultifying, and encourages the human to take themselves out of the loop. ” taggart-tech.com/reckoning/

@STS_News @BigMeanInternet There are a number of recent cool papers by HRI & STS scholars on NBL's ABS as a new form of technology regulation.

@BigMeanInternet Hmm. Interesting. I kind of just don't care about the system - am agnostic - but most of my friends like it. I wonder what explains these gaps between people.

Disgusting. And nuts not to have the zone height vary with the stance. Gonna be pitching to the batter's baseball card.

Yes, I’m sure Opus 4.6 can head to Kenya to conduct a 4-month ethnographic study of intercultural collaboration in intro programming classes, in an afternoon. AI has certainly gotten better, wow
Kevin Cannon@kmcannon

There are PhDs being handed out each day to people living in the past: the students, their advisors, their universities. Dissertations that took 5 years of work, and which 4.6 Opus could re-produce then improve on in an afternoon.

About this PhD debate: 1) Africa needs more not less PhDs, actually about 100k more in the next ten years by some estimates 2) Highly capacitated people are the engines that'll drive the continent's future. Those people need trainers, who in turn need trainers..PhD holders...

As someone who fundraises heavily, and has brought in a significant amount of money into this country, I'd bet that a 5-year election cycle causes much, much less capital flight than consistently broken systems, systemic corruption, citizen kidnaps and infrastructure dysfunction.
Anthony Natif@TonyNatif

Now I’d like for someone to ruminate on the ramifications of such sudden capital flight and how reports like @LarryMadowo’s drive it even higher… After that, we shall probably be ready to have a people-centered conversation.

@nmategyero Bro, our person says he doesn’t defend Amin but somehow blames Israel for the massacre of thousands of Lango and Acholi soldiers, outside of which he says, Amin did no mass killing in Uganda, there were isolated killings. Incredible. Full interview - chronicle.com/article/mahmoo…

Mahmood Mamdani has written an eloquent Amin apologia. You know that people vending screenshots to apparently refute propaganda just skimmed than read the book when they deny that Mamdani defends Amin. Was Jaffar Remo Amin, a ghost-writer? He’s cited extensively, too.

Just a girl, who got to debate brilliant scholars on a topic so relevant to our times. It was truly a highlight of my year to have participated in the #DohaDebates. Check out the debate featuring @yanisvaroufakis @evgenymorozov @danielsusskind and yours truly. 😊 👇🏾

The FIFA world cup 2026 ticket bidding process is such a sham! Ticket sales opened and within 2 minutes, 99% of tickets are gone -- probably acquired by bots. As if that's not enough, tickets are dynamically priced at 7x their price. Nope not gonna participate in this VISA heist

M-KOPA's growth and profitability is impressive and you've gotta give the team their flowers. But make no mistake, this was built on millions and millions in equity and debt earmarked for climate / PAYGO solar. They've raised ~$600m in funding (debt/equity/grants). Those assets (distro, backend, underwriting, debt facilities, human capital) were built over a decade by a company that was squarely trying to solve last mile energy in Africa. And for most of that time, the impact capital that backed M-KOPA also backed that mission. Today, they are primarily a PAYGO smartphone platform. There's now very little solar footprint on their site. We've gotta feel good for the team who've been able to pivot into a lucrative category with deep market pull. But we also need to ask ourselves what the last decade of impact investing has really yielded.

The rate of electrification of Nairobi’s boda bodas is quite impressive … I am also beginning to see a larger number of electric bodas on thika road and in the larger eastlands area. Has anybody written an article on what’s driving this trend?! 🤔🤔🤔

Excited to share that I've joined the faculty at Griffith College Dublin as a lecturer of Educational Psychology. Looking forward to helping undergrad students with insights on how to maximize learners' educational outcomes. Crucially, this experience also enhances our work here.
