@realAtlasPress It's comfortable to conform until you get an idea of your very own and refuse to let it go. @DADiClementi @SugarpussOShea1

@23brookside @MonikaWiesak That's an interesting thought and it makes sense, Michael. They could resort to violence to preserve their fantasy world, the only place they feel in control.
English

@DrKristieLeong @MonikaWiesak Feuerbach said, "Der Mann ist, was er Ibt." Man is what he eats. We must starve the bad wolf of human nature and feed the good. Then our striving, which must occur in us, will have value.
English

@23brookside @MonikaWiesak In some ways, creation and destruction have a similar psychological root - the need for control and agency. When people can’t build, they break. When they can shape the world, they protect it. I'm sure cultures plays a role in enhancing one instinct over the other.

New research suggests that calf circumference is one of the strongest predictors of longevity, and every extra centimeter is tied to about a 5% lower risk of death.
Calf size a quiet biomarker of muscle mass, metabolic reserve, and how well you’ll handle illness as you age. If you’ve never measured yours, this is the moment.
Here's how:
1. Sit or stand with the leg relaxed, foot flat on the floor.
2. Use a non‑stretch tape, wrap it around the widest part of the calf (usually mid‑calf), parallel to the floor, without compressing the skin.
3. Measure each side; use the larger value and record to 0.1 cm if possible.
Studies frequently use cut‑points around 31–34.5 cm to flag higher mortality risk or low muscle mass in older adults. For example, one 9‑year cohort found that CC <34.5 cm and <31 cm both predicted higher mortality, with hazard ratios around 1.7–2.1 vs higher values.

@DrKristieLeong @MonikaWiesak The positive and the negative will to power. One creates and moves humanity; the other stops its forward movement. We want "more." We strive for it. In the Story of Pasteur, a scientist hails Pasteur in the name of France. Paul Muni answers, "I hail you in the name of humanity."
English

@DrKristieLeong @MonikaWiesak I was inspired to think of this theme by the actions of adults around us in the present day. Literature brings facets of ourselves to consciousness. It directs us to what we already know, shines such facet in the light of full recognition. Literature is true to life fiction.
English

@HermannHessed The great lack is that while process is taught in STEM, it is not so diligently taught in the humanities. Hence knowledge of things moves apace, while knowledge of ourselves falls behind. @DrKristieLeong What profits one who gains the world, but loses the gifts of humanity?

@ValaAfshar You may break down the hard nut of complexity by chewing it down into digestible units. To enter the next phase of the dance, plan & move not in frustrating strides, but in challenging steps. @DrKristieLeong @pamelisa @SugarpussOShea1 @DADiClementi

@DrKristieLeong Thanks so much. It makes me smile to exchange ideas with you.

@23brookside Thanks, Michael! I'm glad the reminders are helpful. I enjoy your insights too! 😊

@PhysInHistory Memorizing is easier when you understand the logic of process. Understand the music of all process, and learn a multitude of songs. @DrKristieLeong Teach more than how: teach why.

@distractedfilm Corollary to Gudrun Bragwen (Glenda J in Women in Love): He (or she) may have form, but where does his form go to? Film is a humanity. At its most powerful, it presents a facet of human nature in the true to life. @selfstyledsiren @SugarpussOShea1 @DADiClementi @manuthebest58

Movie Monday—"Grand Slam Opera,” 1936—was Buster Keaton’s favorite of the Educational Pictures, and it seems to be the same with fans. The Anvil Chorus scene comes directly from the Three Keatons' vaudeville act.

@Jimfrombaseball While Mick's homers were often the equivalent of one and a half, Yogi plunked them down just over that 296 foot sign and accomplished the same thing. Berra manifested an economy of effort and made billiards of baseball. @SteveSm41425283 @BrigadierBurma

"They say Yogi Berra`s funny.
Well he has a lovely wife and family, a beautiful home, money in the bank, and he plays golf with millionaires.
What's funny about that?
I never play a game without my man.
He isn’t much to look at and Berra looks like he’s doing everything wrong, but he can hit. Why has our pitching been so great?
Our catcher, that's why.
He looks cumbersome, but he's quick as a cat.
Yogi Berra could fall in a sewer and come up with a gold watch."
Casey Stengel.
"One of the things Casey Stengel said about Grandpa was that he could fall in a sewer and come up with a gold watch, I know that players enjoyed playing for him and that he was really good at putting guys in positions to succeed."
Lindsay Berra.
"Half the lies they tell about me aren't true."
Yogi Berra.

🎬 Waterloo Bridge — Robert Taylor & Vivien Leigh
Imagine saying goodbye to the person you love… not knowing if “tomorrow” will ever come. 🕊️✨
Released in 1940, Waterloo Bridge tells the story of a chance meeting during an air raid that becomes a life-altering romance. This scene features the unforgettable “little eternity” dialogue—one of those poetic moments that defined Hollywood’s Golden Age.
There’s a raw, aching beauty in these black-and-white films that modern cinema rarely captures. Taylor and Leigh deliver a masterclass in restraint, longing, and unspoken emotion.
Some love stories don’t fade—they echo. 🎞️

@ValaAfshar Those in hardship find a good reason to connect with others. That connection is the rainbow after the rain, as hardship is the driver of civilization & human progress. @DADiClementi @SugarpussOShea1
