TCM host Alicia Malone has long been a champion of women in film, so who better to comment on Eleanor's unique contribution to the art? So grateful for her kind and gracious endorsement of our book! Available here: amzn.to/4hJuWkj @PMBroussard @KentuckyPress @TCM

@BrigadierBurma I remember seeing this, but never tried. I was always aiming for the large hard SweetTarts. I bet I would have liked. So is the strawberry and chocolate, also flavors of the coconut? Or does it all taste the same?

Although I rarely eat sweets, I do have a fondness for this childhood treat.

@BrigadierBurma I can't remember it if was 3rd or 4th grade for me, but my kids, all born in France, started learning cursive in kindergarten! In fact, I don't think they ever taught them to print in the schools there.

My Friends: American Education, a failing & flailing discipline, continues to decline. Only half our states require the teaching of cursive. Even King George V required tutors to: “Teach my children a good, round hand.” In my boyhood we learnt cursive in 3rd grade.

Joan Fontaine, Rita Gam, Joan Crawford, and Irene Dunne on April 30, 1962. These ladies, along with Zsa Zsa and Eva Gabor, were acting as ushers for a charity screening at the Sutton Theatre (NY) of THE MIRACLE WORKER.

Happy Birthday to Joan Crawford! #BOTD Here she visits with Eleanor Powell in 1935. (Joan was shooting I LIVE MY LIFE, while Eleanor was working on her first film, BROADWAY MELODY OF 1936).

Did you know The Good Fairy (1935) was the first film ever booked into Radio City Music Hall without a single preview? 🎟️✨Universal was so confident in the Preston Sturges script and Margaret Sullavan’s charm that they skipped the test screenings. It premiered in NYC on Jan 31, 1935, to rave reviews! 🥂Join the online discussion tonight at 6:30 p.m. CDT. meetup.com/chicago-film-c… #TheGoodFairy #TCMParty #ClassicHollywood #RadioCity #FilmHistory #PrestonSturges

@pamelisa @1pcornwell I hope it gets better. She’s a fine writer and I want her series to be successful. But to make a “classic” — like the Sherlock Holmes, or the Miss Marples movies, you have to exercise a little restraint, a little class. To befoul your dialogue excessively coarsens culture.

@1pcornwell As a long time fan of the books I’m underwhelmed with the first 2 episodes. Miss Curtis is over-the-top; the back & forth timeline is chaotic; and someone please fix Miss Kidman’s stringy hair. And just because you can use profanity at will doesn’t mean you must.

@RealAliciaMayer I know what you mean. Heartbreaking, indeed. It was sometime in the late 70s. I remember going to his house, but I don't remember where it was. I also remember him talking about the great improvements to film speed. Funny what you remember!

@pamelisa Of course, don't we all! I constantly imagine the conversations I would have with them now. Heartbreaking that they're all gone. Roughly when were you in touch with him?

This series of photos shows a nearly 30 year span of dear friendship between my grandmother Mitzi Cummings and Eleanor Powell. I love the editor's brief via telegram and then Mitzi's story two months later. But especially the two photos of Mitzi and Eleanor arm in arm in 1939 and then in the 1960s. Wow.

@RealAliciaMayer What great memories! I wish I knew then when I know now - our conversation would have been a whole lot better! I was too young and didn't know what I was doing. LOL. But I did get him back in touch with Ellie!

Wow, fantastic. Yes, he was a favorite of mine. His youngest daughter and I were just a few months apart age-wise so I spent quite a bit of time with them. Uncle Jack was an incredible storyteller as I'm sure you experienced. I can remember kind of falling asleep next to my grandfather at Nate n Als and then Jack would slam his hand down on the table to punctuate a point and I'd get startled awake haha.

@RealAliciaMayer I also interviewed your great uncle Jack many, many years ago. He produced most of her MGM films.

@pamelisa That's lovely! It's an LA JHA award of some sort. The front of the photo is scratched so I'll need to locate that original and hopefully read it better as magnifying it isn't helping. Yes, great grandma Ida was devoted to the JHA for 30 years. Often aided by Mary Pickford.

@RealAliciaMayer I'm curious to know what that interesting looking award that is! BTW, I'm co-author of Eleanor Powell: Born to Dance and I was a close friend of Ellie's. She performed at several benefits for the Jewish Home for the Aged, of which I believe your great grandmother was president.

@pamelisa When I can I'll locate the original pic. My grandmother Mitzi typically wrote who everyone was on the front or back, which is how I would have arrived at those names.
